Q1:  Consider the preservation of a scenic river.   There are  100 people who enjoys the scenary of the river.   let Q be the number of kilometers of the river to preserve.  The marginal benefits of the perservation for each individual is given as

MDp  = 10 − Q

The marginal costs for the preservation is constant at $500 per kilometers. a What is the efficient number of kilometers of river to preserve?        b  How large is the total economic surplus of the optimal preservation?

Q2:  Suppose a market demand for a resource is P = 200 − 4Q and the market supply is P = 50 + 2Q.  In addition, the marginal net benefit function is expected to be the same for the next generation.  The discount rate is 50%. The total resource supply over two periods are 10.

a What will be the amount of consumption in each generation.  Draw a graph to illustrate your answer.

b  How much is the marginal user cost at dynamic equilibrium level of consumption? What is the approperiate amount of resource depletion tax in perid one?

c  Draw a supply-demand graph for the frist period. Show the depletion tax as well as the user costs on the graph.
