Question 1 (35%)

You are a financial consultant of a company. The CEO would like you to seek your advice on the following investment. Suppose that the company is considering to invest in a project with the following assumptions:

$5M should be invested now. Subsequently between year 1 and year 5, $X should be invested with a decreasing rate of d% per year (e.g. , $4.5M should be invested in year 1 if d = 10). From year 6 to year m , no investment is required and there will be a steady income of $0.5M per year. After year m (i.e., starting from year m+1), there will be an annual income with a growth rate of g% per year (i.e., the annual income in year m+1 will be $0.5(1+(g/100))M). The discount rate is r .

Analyse the present value of this investment using a formula and evaluate the impact with different values of d, m , g and r (e.g., using some graphs) . You may make other reasonable assumptions.

Question 2 (30%)

Choose one of the following stocks. Note that each member in your project group should choose a different stock.

Use the workshop methods to predict the stock prices in 2021 based on the data between 2016 and 2020. For the machine learning methods (Orange/Python) , include 5-day and 20-day moving averages as the training features as well. You may also consider other technical indicators. Give an overview of the methods, evaluate the methods and analyse the results.
