Assessment 2: Description

This assessment task aims to:

•     provide students with the opportunity to explore subject topics using a real-world example

•     introduce students to using AI tools to gather information and critically evaluate the Ai-generated content by cross referencing with company annual reports and Excel ratio calculations.

•     work collaboratively on a piece of academic work

•     learn from their peers regarding their own behaviour in group work

•     develop skills required for financial analysis.

Instructions:

1.   Log on to the subject site on LearnJCU.

2.   Select the ‘Assessment’ folder.

3.   Select the sub-folder titled ‘Assessment Task 2 – Case Study Analysis.

4.  Access the information for your assigned company. Download the supporting workbook and complete the requirements of parts 1, 2 and 3, to draw information for the Case Study Analysis. The requirements for the essay are listed in part 4 of the workbook.

Useful Information

•    Students will be assigned a company in the first class and will be expected to work individually answering questions about their assigned company in their workbook.

•    Once census date has passed, your lecturer/tutor will assign you to a group with a maximum of 4

students. Each student in the group will be assigned a different company, this means that there will be 4 different companies within each group. Students may choose members for their group, but each member must be assigned a different company for the purposes of this assessment task.

•    This is a progressive assessment task; therefore, students will need to continue to prepare answers for their assigned company to the questions in the workbook to be able to participate in the comparative  analysis for the group. It is recommended you maintain records of all i.e. meeting agendas and minutes and use the other facilities to communicate with group members as evidence of group collaboration.

•    Time will be allocated in classes to work on the assignment to facilitate and encourage collaboration

with students and within the group. These classes in weeks 5, 6, 7 and 8 will be compulsory for all group members to attend. However, it is also expected that the group will work on the assessment task outside of these formal classes.

•    Effective group work means: Group members take responsibility for the effective and efficient

functioning to ensure that all participants contribute to the group discussion and have the opportunity to present their view.

•    Sometimes individual members of a group will not contribute equally to the task resulting in some

students carrying higher workload in the group. This subject uses a peer evaluation sheet to alleviate student concerns about the contribution of individual group members. Hence the importance of maintaining records as evidence of each members participation and collaboration. The lecturer reserves the right to reject peer and self-evaluations that are deemed inconsistent with the information obtained from the supporting documentation.

Submission Requirements

Assessment must be submitted as either a Word or PDF document to the Assignment Drop Box on the

LearnJCU subject site (click on Assessment in the subject site menu). A nominated member will submit on behalf of the group. Refer to Part 4 of the Workbook for the formatting requirements for the assignment

submission.

All students must submit AI Acknowledgement declaration form.
