Module Title: Internet of Things
Module Code: PSB602IT
Introduction:
Digital transformation had become the word of mouths in today’s business world. It is no longer something good to have but is considering must have to sustain a business. These transformations are typically enabled with the use of technologies such as cloud, artificial intelligence, automation, Internet of Things and big data which provides organization a better way to understand, manage and re-invent new products or services to meet the market needs.
In this assignment you are required to:
1. Review and familiarized with the United Nation - 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
2. Explore and identify digital transformation opportunities on any business model or society issues as well as challenges which a. has not being (Excellent) or
b. could potentially (Good) or
c. already (Moderate) resolved with the use of IoT technologies.
3. Propose and suggest opportunity to invent or innovate or integrate IoT technologies or solution towards commercial, economics and society and its potential issues arise.
4. Design and implement an Internet of Things application to satisfy a defined goal specified in step 2 above.
5. Evaluate the security, privacy and trust issues associated with Internet of Things technologies and develop mitigating strategies
Completion of this assignment will address the following learning outcomes:
1 Critically analyse and explain the key concepts of the Internet of Things and its enabling technologies.
2 Design and implement an Internet of Things application to satisfy a defined goal.
3 Critically evaluate the security, privacy and trust issues associated with Internet of Things technologies and develop mitigating strategies.
4 Demonstrate detailed knowledge and understanding of the commercial, economic and societal issues related to the Internet of Things
5 Critically review recent and predicted future trends in developments, technologies and protocols of the Internet of Things
Task:
Report
Prepare a report for the proposal and development of a prototype for businesses, society or industry (non-home based) using IoT technology and reflective report (2000 words) on its application, operation and security issues with potential for mitigation.
You may follow the following guides in preparing your report:
• Introduction (200-500 words) o Describe what this report is all about, overview of the project and briefly elaborate the intends of subsequent sections within the report.
• Background Study / Literature Review o Select a society / industry domain of interest i.e. healthcare, manufacturing, transportation, finance, agriculture and etc…
o Review, analyse and discuss at least 5 real-world case studies for the selected domain of interest from news portals or reliable publisher, or company report or scientific research paper and identify its current business or society challenges.
o Define, emphasis and describe of the key problem(s) based on case studies reviewed which can be resolved with IoT solution.
o Propose a potential solution to address the key problem(s) above and its rationale.
o Review, identify and compare list of IoT components, software’s, hardware’s and its enabling technologies to materialize the suggested solution.
• Prototype Design & Architecture o Develop a conceptual model and describe how the proposed solution works.
o Select and describe the enabling technologies adopted for the proposed solution with an architecture (or layered) diagram.
o Develop wireframe or UI Design (if applicable)
• Prototype Implementation o Explain and illustrate the process of prototype development with screenshots throughout the development stage.
o Emphasis on the key creation and development you have contributed for this prototype development. i.e. development of new codes, program, etc rather than just configurations.
• Prototype Evaluation o Define and describe the simulation and evaluation setup. i.e. scenarios or use cases
o Define and describe key measurement matrix for the prototype evaluation.
o Discuss the finding and outcome (expected/unexpected) of prototype evaluation and elaborate if the developed prototype has overcome the key problem defined above with evidence.
• Conclusion
o Summarize the project by re-emphasizing the key problem(s) identified on the selected domain or industry and how the problem(s) has been overcome with the proposed solution.
o Describe and elaborate the challenges and constraints which limit certain aspect of the prototype development
o Suggest future works, potential security or privacy consideration, and recommendation on top of the prototype you have developed.
• List of References
• Appendix (if any i.e. cloud platform app API URL/analytics dashboard)
• Table of content and list of figures are NOT REQUIRED
Report Format
Ensure your report follow the following format failure to adhere to the required report format may attract severe marks deduction.
• Arial font type for all
• 1.25 line spacing for all
• Align “justify” for all paragraph
• 14 points bold for section heading
• 12 points bold for level 2 sub-heading
• 10 points bold for level 3 sub-heading
• 10 points for body text
• All figures and tables included in the report must have caption with number as well as short description and must be cited, describe or elaborated in-text (the report paragraph)
• Uses Harvard Referencing Style
Turnitin Similarity Index
Ensure your report maintain and keep the similarity index below 25%. Any attempt to by-pass similarity index will be panelised.
Prototype
Develop a prototype based on your design above and perform the prototype evaluation based on proposed experimental or simulation setup. The prototype does not need to be fully functional and deploy to real-world environment (although that would be good to have) as long as it is capable to demonstrate the proof of concept on the proposed solution in tackling the key problem(s) identified or simulating the real-world environment.
The prototype must be evaluated for its associated security, privacy and trust issues with mitigating strategies.
Viva
You are required to undergo a 8-minute viva (including Q&A) for this coursework.
Guidance notes and considerations
Late Submission
• If you are not able to complete your coursework on time due to extenuating circumstances, the ONLY way to receive an extension (up to 5 working days) or a deferral (anything longer than 5 working days) is to contact your module lecturer or Email to [email protected]
• Extenuating circumstances are defined by CU as ‘genuine circumstances beyond your control or ability to foresee, and which seriously impair your assessed work’.
• Please note that you will need to provide third party evidence to support your reasoning for requiring an extension or deferral.
Plagiarism and Malpractice
• You are encouraged to check the originality of your work by using the draft Turnitin links on your Blackboard.
• Collusion between students (where sections of your work are similar to the work submitted by other students in this or previous module cohorts) is taken extremely seriously and will be reported to the academic conduct panel. This applies to all coursework and exam answers.
• A marked difference between your writing style, knowledge and skill level demonstrated in class discussion, any test conditions and that demonstrated in a coursework assignment may result in you having to undertake a Viva Voce in order to prove the coursework assignment is entirely your own work.
• If you make use of the services of a proof reader in your work you must keep your original version and make it available as a demonstration of your written efforts.
• You must not submit work for assessment that you have already submitted (partially or in full), either for your current course or for another qualification of this university, unless this is specifically provided for in your assignment brief or specific course or module information.
• Where earlier work by you is citable, i.e., it has already been published/submitted, you must reference it clearly. Identical pieces of work submitted concurrently will also be considered to be selfplagiarism.
Submission Guidelines
There should be a title page which clearly identifies the following:
* Name of the module * Title of the Assessment
* Assessment number * Word count
The word count identified includes quotations, but excludes the bibliography and unless specifically stated, encompasses a discrepancy of + or – 10%.
