Assignment 1: commentary

Length 500 words

Respond to two of the following (see slides on Blackboard for more info)

(1) Analysis of your musical materials and what you do with them (e.g., develop, vary, contrast, recontextualise, and/or transform them).

(2) Placing the work in context and discussing works or ideas that were of influence

(3) Description of the structure, including speculation on how your work might be experienced across time. E.g., important moments (e.g. moments of arrival, return, surprise). You can also discuss the work’s shape, pacing, and transitions.

(4) Discussion of a problem/issue encountered during the compositional process where you detail the given problem and the choices you considered.
