Assessment item brief
For this assessment item you are required to produce the following:
|
In this project, you will design an original object from the future and present it in an exhibition that takes place approximately 20 years after it was first produced. The main design aim of this project is to make a better world. Your design work will follow futures thinking theory, researching future social and cultural contexts via The World Economic Forum's Transformation Maps database; your design work will use highly ideational and iterative creative methods. Your research will be communicated in a 300-word detailed scenario, and your original designed object will be rendered as an experimental paper model. An APA 7th reference list needs to be included to list all sources used in the projects. As part of a design community of practice, you will take part in a draft critique session. *Please note that large language models such as ChatGPT should not be used to generate any of your future object design work or scenario. You can, however, use large language models to briefly introduce yourself to the contexts, theories, histories, readings, etc. of the project, similarly to how you might use Wikipedia. All large language model information that is important to your work must be verified in reliable sources. |
Assessment item submission requirements
For this assessment item you are required to submit the following:
|
Draft critique - submitted to Padlet in Tutorial A, Week 12 • Draft future object paper model • 300-word detailed scenario • APA 7th reference list • Critique of your studio partner's drafts Final work - exhibited in Tutorial B, Week 12 and submitted in a single PDF to Canvas Assignments • Future object paper model • 300-word detailed scenario • APA 7th reference list • Research notes, sketches, and models (this should contain a wide range of your research, not only the research that directly connects to your final object; include all of your paper models and some horizon scanning, forecasting, backcasting/scenarios, ideation sketching/modelmaking, and evaluations) |
