Detailed Assessment Description
Drawing on the theoretical and pedagogical principles you have learned during this course, present a plan for embedding the teaching of oral communication in your subject area and context. If you are not a teacher and do not plan to be a teacher, the plan can be for an intervention in a professional context. Please get in touch with Troy if unsure.
Your assignment should follow the general structure below. Further division in terms of headings and sub-headings is at your discretion.
Part 1: Introducing the context: Needs and challenges (1200-1500 words)
The assignment should include a description of the teaching context and discussion of the importance of teaching oral communication in your subject area and the local context. It should also discuss some of the major challenges to teaching oral communication in this area.
Part 2: The plan (1800-2000 words)
You should first set out the key theoretical concepts and/or principles for teaching oral communication that you believe are useful for grounding the teaching of oral communication in your context. You will then discuss at least three tasks that you think could be successfully and meaningfully implemented to improve students’ oral communication abilities. In discussing the tasks, you should explain what the oral communication focus of the task is, why it is important, and what procedures are involved in implementing it (i.e. what the teacher and students would do). At least one task should be designed with the intention of assessing student performance for the purpose of formative feedback (i.e. formative assessment).
