Weighting towards course final grade: 25%

Purpose of the Personal Career Development Report

The purpose of the Personal Career Development Report is twofold:

combine all elements you have learnt in the five modules into a client report, where the client is you and

inform your thinking about your career pathways and the best way to spend your time at the university.

The Personal Career Development Report builds off the Al-generated draft (your Skeleton Report). You can edit or rewrite this draft as you see fit. Before editing or rewriting the Skeleton report, reflect on the Week 12 lecture and material to complement the analytical work you have done in earlier weeks.

Structure of the Personal Career Development Report

The Personal Career Development Report consists of seven parts that rely on activities and skills learnt throughout this course (see also the rubric below):

1. Future employer pitch (Week 12): Pitch your desired career to a dream employer (as if you have accomplished all your plans at VUW). This should be a polished narrative with a clear audience in mind. It should highlight how you match the expectations of your dream employer and what makes you stand out from the cohort of fresh graduates.

2. Introduction (Week 12): State your report's thesis, suggest the report's importance to your client (yourself) and outline the structure. Check the writing booklet from Module 2 (pp. 15-16) for more tips.

3. Self-assessment section (Week 10 and Journal article assignment): Analyse and understand your career dreams and expectations. Start from the Al draft developed for the Skeleton report and edit/rewrite it to make it worthwhile for your client (aka yourself).

4. Jobs in context section (Week 9 and Module 4/Week 8): Distil career insights from data. Start from the Al draft developed for the Skeleton report and edit/rewrite it to make it worthwhile for your client (aka yourself).

5. Recommendations section (Week 11 and Week 12): This is a crucial section of any client report. Ensure you highlight opportunities at VUW and WSBG and some risks that could undermine your career pathway. Reflect on the final lecture and the importance of discovering new pathways as you progress your studies. Start from the Al draft developed for the Skeleton report and edit/rewrite it to make it worthwhile for your client (aka yourself).

6. Conclusion (Week 12): Reiterate the main thesis/idea/recommendation and summarise the main takeaways for your client. Check the writing booklet from Module 2 (pp. 15-16) for more tips.

7. References (Week 2): Include at least three intext references to newspaper or academic articles in the above sections. Provide an APA formatted list of references. Do not forget to include job descriptions and the dataset you used in the selfassessment and jobs in context sections, respectively. If any references are generated by the Al tool, verify that they exist and are correctly interpreted. Include URLs (online links to references).

You can use Al tools to prepare the final Personal Career Development Report, but make sure that the report expresses your own view, informed by the analytical work and thinking you have done throughout the course.
