You may choose one film to focus on, or more than one film to discuss. For instance, for the first response, you may choose either The Last Emperor or Enter the Dragon or Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon to focus on; or you may focus on one theme that connects those films. Either way, you should explore details in mise-en-scene and/or cinematography. In your analyses, you should delve into the film's visual, auditory, and/or narrative components, employing cinematic language to elucidate your points; employ concepts from film studies, such as editing, sound design, and narrative structure, to articulate your observations with precision and depth. You should also discuss the assigned readings: either use them as your evidence or disagree with them. You are encouraged to disagree with the assigned readings: in this case, please bring in other scholarly discussions for evidence. Maximum 400 words per response. Do not forget to cite your sources in the MLA style. Please refer to a detailed grading rubric in “Pages” on Canvas.
