Submission: The report will be submitted through Canvas. This can be accessed in the assignments tab. There will be an opportunity in weeks seven and eight to submit a draft of tasks one and two for feedback and direction.
Marking and Feedback: The assessment will be marked on Canvas using the rubric below. Feedback will be provided individually as a summary of what was done well and any areas for improvement. Students are required to pass this assignment to pass the course.
Tasks: There are five tasks associated with the submission of the nutrition communication portfolio.
1. Evidence-based summary/justification (15 marks)
Develop a 1-page, plain English summary of the evidence-based literature relating to the dietary management of your selected condition. The search starting point should be the evidence that dietary modification can reduce symptoms / improve health outcomes for individuals with your selected condition. This summary should critically review the literature to support the need for your nutrition education program and your chosen target group. This demonstrates your ability to translate complex scientific nutrition information into appropriate communication strategies.
2. Overview of the program and sessions you are promoting (20 marks)
*The information you provide in this question will provide context for your oral presentation in Assignment 2.
Outline key aspects of your nutrition education program, including:
- Program title and target group (e.g., age, gender, ethnicity)
- An overall SMART goal, two long-term objectives, and two short-term objectives.
- Number of sessions, the duration of each session, and the setting that the program will be conducted in
- A brief plan for each session, including two strategy objectives per session, the key topics (strategy activities) to be covered and any resources required.
- A brief evaluation plan including measures for outcome and impact evaluation that align with your goals and objectives.
3. Social Media communication pieces (30 marks)
Develop four (4) appropriately formatted social media communication pieces related to your chosen condition and selected target group. The overall goals of your social media communication pieces are to (i) translate key evidence and (ii) highlight key dietary messages regarding your selected condition. Formatting and key features should be appropriate for the specific type of communication. However, you do NOT need to have social media accounts and you do NOT need to post your communication pieces on social media. Just templates that would replicate these platforms are all that is needed.
You must develop a different communication piece for each platform - Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Instagram. Ensure your developed pieces are fully included in your portfolio, at least ½ page per piece, and the TikTok is uploaded as a separate video file.
In addition to the social media pieces,
i. Justify why each piece you have developed is appropriately suited to reach the specified target group, including key features or considerations you have included.
ii. The marketing strategies you would apply to your communication pieces, such as branding, visual impact, key messages, etc.
iii. How each social media piece incorporates behaviour change models to promote positive health behaviour change among the target audience.
4. Visual Resources (10 marks)
Develop two (2) patient resources related to your chosen condition.
i. a poster that would be displayed in a health clinic waiting room.
ii. a pamphlet that would be provided to a client by a GP on diagnosis.
The overall goals of your visual resources are to (i) translate key evidence and (ii) highlight key dietary messages regarding your selected condition specific to your target group. Each resource should not be longer than one A4 double-sided page. Consider how you will use visual presentation principles to present your information.
5. Blog Post (15 marks)
Create a 1-page blog post related to your chosen condition.
The overall goals of your blog post are to (i) translate key evidence in a clear and engaging manner. Your post should contribute meaningful insights that educate and inform a wider audience about the condition.
References and formatting.
References are to be appropriately used throughout each task. Any referencing style can be used, ensuring consistency throughout the document.
