Studio 4: Folio 2 Assignment - Publishable Outcomes

The emphasis for Folio 02 is on dissemination of knowledge in scholarly, arts, professional industry and/or academia contexts. The ability to do this will be based on deepening and conveying a significant and impactful inquiry established from earlier in the semester.

This means your Folio 02 will need to demonstrate the value and significance of your research activities and contribution beyond RMIT alone and you will pursue established sites of peer recognition, including conferences, screenings, events, festivals, residencies, workshops, journals or other scholarly, industry or professional contexts.

The focus and assessment of Folio 02 is on two key points:

1. demonstrating the impact of your research outcomes through their recognition and dissemination in your field

2: the articulation, significance and value of your research inquiry conveyed in the Extended Abstract and Video Essay.

As with your Folio 01 submission, your Folio 02 submission has a variety of potential possibilities and outcomes negotiated equitably with the lecturers. Dissemination opportunities will vary. For some students this will be research paper that has been submitted or presented at a peer-reviewed conference. For others it will be developing or expanding a project that has been invited or commissioned to a notable screening or exhibition. Other submissions may include a paper for an artist talk, a scholarly industry report, a conference poster, a curated show, or a presentation for a Masters or Doctoral symposium. Evidence of dissemination is critical whatever your publishable outcomes are, please include this in your Dissemination document.

Again your work will be responding to the local and international needs and issues in the current scholarly, artistic, industry and/or academic contexts of your field. The standing and quality of the dissemination is important, rather than quantity - take a considerate and strategic approach with your dissemination.

List the sites and evidence of dissemination with your submission in a seperate Dissemination document. In this document please give a summary and overview of your dissemination that gives a rationale for the activities you have undertaken. Comment on the impact, prestige, standing, importance etc of your dissemination (see the Dissemination criteria below). Include all the dissemination outcomes you have submitted to festivals, conferences, events, funding organisations etc - this might be a conference paper, a grant proposal, an application for a PhD, exhibition documentation and so on - each of you will have different submissions.

While each of you will have varied Folio 02 submissions your Publishable Research Outcome/s will demonstrate a high degree of rigour and quality. As you are seeking recognition of your research contribution and activities beyond RMIT alone the submissions will need to be of a high quality standard suitable for public dissemination.

You will also submit a 4 - 5 minute well-edited video 'essay' which clearly conveys the significance/impact of your inquiry and Publishable Research Outcome/s. This is a compelling audio/visual summary of your practice and scholarly investigations - its context, rationale, question, method, contribution and so on. Essentially it is conveying the inquiry of your Extended Abstract via a short reflective video essay - however you have the opportunity to convey these elements inquiry in different ways through the audio and visual form of the video.
