Formative Writing Coursework Task Sheet
DEADLINES: 9 am, Monday, November 11 (Week 9 Lesson 1)
WHERE: Submit in drop box on EAP103 LMO page
ASSESSMENT WEIGHTING: 0%
MODULE OUTCOMES ASSESSED: B, D, E (see Module Handbook on Learning Mall)
TASK: In the EAP103 formative writing task, you will use the Situation-Problem-Solution structure to practice analysing a science-related problem, identifying ONE solution to the problem.
To prepare for the assessed writing component of the Project, your formative task is to write a Situation-Problem-Solution (SPS) essay to introduce and describe one solution to one of the following two problems:
● Topic A: Soil degradation
● Topic B: Microplastics
General expectations for each section of the essay:
● Situation: Focus on the causes of the problem
● Problem: Focus on one negative effect
● Solution: Describe and introduce one solution
It is recommended that you identify effects and/or solutions relevant to your programme of study if possible, though this is not a requirement. More advice about the expectations for the content and structure can be found in “EAP103 FWCW Guidelines” document on Learning Mall.
This task will be followed later by an assessed essay in the Project, in which you will write about the situation, problem, and solutions of another assigned topic, and the Speaking Coursework, which involves presenting an evaluation of the solutions that you wrote about.
