Add/Drop/Change Grade Option

After classes have begun, all requests to add, drop, or change grade option must be approved by the Summer Assistant Course Director, Jennifer Geraci (jgeraci@uci.edu (mailto:jgeraci@uci.edu) ).

To add the course after Summer classes have begun, you must first go to the Summer Session

website (https://summer.uci.edu/ (https://summer.uci.edu/) ) and put yourself on the waitlist for a

section.  The Summer Assistant Course Director will email you to let you know when a spot becomes available.  To enroll, you must email an enrollment form to Summer Session and copy both your

instructor and the Summer Assistant Course Director.  The deadline to add a Summer

Composition course is 5:00 pm Friday of the first week of class.  This deadline is set by the Composition Program and strictly enforced.

If you wish to drop during the first two weeks of class, you may visit the Summer Session website (https://summer.uci.edu/ (https://summer.uci.edu/) ) and drop yourself from the course.  The

deadline to drop is 5:00 pm Friday of the second week of class. This deadline is set by the Composition Program and strictly enforced.

All drops after Week 2 must be approved by the Summer Assistant Course Director.  Drops will only   be granted based on special, extenuating circumstances outside the student’s control, supported with documentation.  In most cases, scheduling conflicts with other summer courses, internships, or jobs   DO NOT qualify as extenuating circumstances.

If you wish to change your grade option (from Letter to P/NP or the other way around), email the

Summer Assistant Course Director for a change form to send to Summer Session.  You may change your grade option until Summer Session’s official deadline; see the Summer Session Calendar

NOTE: Students who wish to change their Grade Option to P/NP should first check with their academic counselors to make sure this choice is available to them.

Academic Integrity for Your Writing Class

The Composition Program and its teachers assume that work submitted by students–all process   work, drafts, low-stakes writing, final versions, and all other submissions–will be generated by the students themselves, working individually or in groups. This means that the following would be

considered violations of academic integrity by the Composition Program:

1.  If a student has another person or entity do the writing of any substantive portion of an

assignment for them, which includes hiring a person or a company to write essays and drafts and/or other assignments, research-based or otherwise;

2.  If a student submits the same work for more than one class without consulting with the instructors.

3.  If a student uses Generative AI tools to generate text that the student presents as their own without documentation/citation and/or approval by their instructor.

Specified Use of Generative AI in this Class

Over the course of this quarter, you may be asked to use one of the free and publicly available Gen  AI tools for specific purposes and learning objectives. Outside of these directives, you may use Gen AI tools for only these specific purposes: research topic exploration, generating preliminary research questions and outlining/prewriting.
