Answer ONE question, using at least ten academic sources from this module’s reading list.

1. To what extent do the mainstream media produce inequalities among people from different social classes? Why or why not?  Discuss this question with reference to relevant academic literature and use the screen industries in Britain and at least one other example of global media to illustrate.

2. Find and discuss 2 examples of films that portray stereotypes in Hollywood. One example film should be of how a stereotype is perpetuated: discuss with reference to relevant academic literature how the stereotype is deployed. The other example film should be of how a stereotype is broken: discuss with reference to relevant academic literature what strategies are used to break it. 

3. Do you agree that Asian popular culture challenged gender stereotypes in Western contexts of reception in the 2010s-2020s? Why or why not? Discuss this question with reference to relevant academic literature and use K-POP and at least one other example to illustrate.

4. Discuss with reference to relevant academic literature how the non-Western Other is represented in news media. Discuss in relation to either war or refugees.

5. Choose one inequality from this module (gender, sexuality, disability, race, ethnicity or social class) and discuss with reference to relevant academic literature how this inequality has persisted, been improved or been exacerbated in the context of social media use and media audience agency. Use at least two examples to illustrate your argument.
