MTH002 Mini Project

The objective of this project is to identify a claim, collect your data, perform a hypothesis test to verify or dispute the claim, and write your conclusions in a report.

You can choose one claim to discuss:

1. More than one third of XJTLU students do not goto bed until after midnight.

2. More than 90% of XJTLU undergraduate students are going to do postgraduate study after they graduate.

3. More than a half of XJTLU students think that most of the lectures at XJTLU should be delivered completely in English.

4. You can find a claim yourself about ONE population mean or ONE population proportion in an article in a newspaper, magazine or on the internet.

5. Any other hypothesis testing you interested in.

Your report should include the following information:

• Which claim you choose and identify the claim is the null or alternative hypothesis.

• If you use a claim in an article, you need to copy or print out the article and highlight the claim you are testing. (This is only required if you choose a claim yourself.)

• Detailed description of how, where, and when you collected your data, including the sampling technique. Did you use cluster, stratified, systematic, or simple random

sampling? Your sample size should be at least 50. Your data must be real.

• Create a graph that illustrates your data. (e.g., pie chart, bar chart, histogram).

• Perform a hypothesis test to test the claim based on your experiment. Make your decision using a 5% level of significance.

• The conclusion about the claim in light of your hypothesis test. This is the conclusion of your hypothesis test, stated in words, in the context of the situation in your project.

Your report should be typed in 12 point font on A4 papers and the length of the report should be no more than two pages.

Only pdf format is allowed for submission and the deadline for submission is 26th May.
