Question 1 (10 marks)

a.   What is the difference between information technology and information systems? (6 marks total: 4 marks for IT, 2 marks for IS)

b.   Regarding the three dimensions in the context of information systems (organization, management, technology), what are the roles played by managers in a business environment?   (4 marks total: 2 marks for each role)

Question 2 (25 marks)

a.   What is a chatbot and how are they used in business?

(5 marks total: 2 marks for chatbots’ definition, 1 mark for their operation and 2 marks for usages)

b.   How do neural networks in machine learning systems actually "learn"? (10 marks total: 5 marks for definition 5 marks for operation)

c.   Please describe some of Artificial Intelligence technologies encompassed under the umbrella of machine learning being used in our daily life. Please give one everyday example to support your answer.

Question 3 (10 marks)

a.   Describe what are intranets and extranets. Use an example to illustrate their difference in terms of the users they served (4 marks total: 3 marks for description, 1 mark for example).

b.  Nowadays, products can be bought and sold through online (e.g., Internet, mobile apps) and offline channels (e.g., physical stores). Compare (with examples) the pros  and cons of each product channel. (6 marks total: 2 marks for pros and cons for each channel, 1 mark for each example)

a.   Explain (with examples) what is the conceptual design and the physical design of a database.                         (6 marks)

b.   Describe any 2 techniques/tools (with examples) that can be used during the conceptual design of a database (6 marks total: 2 marks for each technique/tool,  1 mark for each example)

c.   ABC company is now setting up a new database in a new country. It hires a data

administrator and a database administrator. Describe the different responsibilities/tasks  each administrator plays in setting up the database.                      (8 marks)

The query should display the Total Quantity, the Snack Name, and the Price Per Snack (Figure 2) in ascending order of the Price Per Snack. Depict your query in the   following figure.              (10 marks)

 

c)   Consider the database tables shown above in Question 5, design a query that will display  the total price amount of each order made by each customers if the total price amount is smaller than HK$40. The query should show the result (Figure 3) in descending order of  the last name of the customer. Depict your query in the following figure.         (10 marks)

 

 

Question 6 (10 marks)

a)   Consider the following Microsoft Excel worksheet that models an Income and Cash Flow Statement for a company, the worksheet has the known components:

.    C2: It is the number of staff of the company

.    C3: It is the Tax Rate for Type A Company

.    C4: It is the Tax Rate for Type B Company

.    C7: It is the type of the company. The value can be either “A” or “B” .

.    B8: It is the Tax Exemption of Year 2022.

.    C10: The Minimum Cash on Hand.

.    C11: It contains the Maximum Tax Refund.

.    C14: It contains a formula to find the Beginning-of-year Cash on Hand

.    C15: It contains the Sales of this year.

.    C16: It contains the Cost of Goods Sold

.    C18: It contains the formula to find Income before Taxes

.    C21: It contains the formula to find Net Income after Taxes

.    C22: It contains the formula to find Net Cash Position (NCP).

.    C25: It contains the formula to find End-of-year Cash on Hand

.    C28: It contains the Beginning-of-year debt owed.

 

Complete the worksheet by entering formulae in the spaces provided.

1.   C8: It is the Tax Exemption of Year 2023. It depends on the number of staffs of

the company and the Tax Exemption of Year 2022. If the company has more than 1000 staffs, the Tax Exemption is increased by 8%, otherwise it is increased by 15%.             (2 marks)

2.   C9: Tax Rate of Year 2023. It depends on the type of the company, and the

corresponding in C3 and C4.                        (1 mark)

3.   C19: It finds the Income Tax Expense before Tax Refund. If the Income before

Taxes is smaller than or equal to the Tax Exemption, it is zero. Otherwise it

depends on the Tax Rate and the Income before Taxes.                               (1 mark)

4.   C20: It finds the Income Tax Expense after Tax Refund. If the Income Tax

Expense before Tax Refund does not exceed the Maximum Tax Refund, it is zero. Otherwise, it is the difference between the Income Tax Expense before Tax Refund and the Maximum Tax Refund.                 (2 marks)

5.   C23: It is Line of Credit Borrowing from bank – Amount borrowed from bank to maintain minimum cash required (Borrowing is needed only if the NCP is lower than the minimum Cash on Hand).                   (2 marks)

6.   C24: It is Line of Credit Repayment to bank – Amount of debt repaid to bank out   of excess cash (have more than the required Minimum Cash on Hand).    (2 marks)
