Introduction to Financial Accounting

Tutorial Group Presentation and Facilitation

Due Date:          Once, during tutorials

Value:             10%

Purpose:           To develop presentation, communication and critical thinking skills alongside content

knowledge.

Requirements: This component of assessment requires each group of 4-5 students to provide a presentation to the class and facilitate a learning activity once during the semester.

Groups:             Students will be allocated into groups by the tutor. Groups will be assigned a week to present

by the tutor. All students within a group will receive the same grade for the assessment.

Details:             The task will  have two components – a class presentation, and a facilitation learning activity.

The class presentation will take place at the beginning of the tutorial. The group will present a summary of the main content for the topic of the week to ‘set the scene’ for learning. Groups should use visual aids such as power point, but should not merely replicate the lecture slides. All group members must participate in the presentation summary and engage the class. The presentation must not exceed five (5) minutes. Groups should be ready to start promptly when the  class  begins (this means arriving early  and loading slides etc). Group members are encouraged to be creative and engaging in their presentation. Marks will be awarded based on the marking rubric on the next page, focusing on presentation content and presentation skills.

The facilitated learning activity will take place at the end of the tutorial (the group will sit back down with the rest of the class in between their initial presentation and the facilitated learning activity session). The presenting group for the week will create and facilitate an activity that recaps students’ learning of the current weekly topic. This may, for example, comprise a quiz such as a short game of Kahoot. The activity must not exceed ten (10) minutes in total. Groups are strongly encouraged to check their questions and answers with their tutor before the day of the tutorial to avoid errors or misleading content. Marks will be awarded based on the marking rubric on the next page, focusing on the design and content of the learning activity.

Marks will also be awarded for overall group preparation for the day.
