1. A young woman named Cinderella lives in the pulsing center of the digital world, where pixels write dreams and screens dazzle with filtered perfection. Her life unfolds in the enticing light of social media, where each post has the potential to be a canvas and a platform for creativity. But underneath the glamorous exterior, Cinderella's world is a timeless story of hardship and perseverance. The temptation of internet glamor surrounds Cinderella since she is the stepdaughter of Lorraine, a well-known makeup artist. While Bella and Ana, Lorraine's two stepdaughters, adore their mom’s fame and the world cherishes Lorraine's artistic talent. The depressing truth is that Cinderella's personal goals are hidden and her creativity is restricted by the shadow cast by her family amongst the digital glamor.

Cinderella is the brains behind her stepmother's social media empire, hidden from the world's eyes. She is a marketing genius who goes unnoticed and organizes a symphony of digital perfection. Her stepmother and stepsisters take center stage on the virtual platform, soaking in the spotlight as it develops while being completely unaware of the unseen creator of their reputation. While the stepfamily enjoys their fame online, Cinderella quietly works to maintain their reputation while doing all the housework. As an unappreciated worker in a world of images and likes, she works day and night for nothing in return. All while Cinderella’s father, a dedicated travel nurse, is unaware of the complicated relationships taking place in his own home as he travels the world saving lives as a travel nurse.

Cinderella gains hope as her family was invited to a masquerade party, an occasion guaranteed to take over online news. The event, where influencers and celebrities meet, is hosted by The Prince himself. Cinderella's dreams are dismissed by her stepfamily who see her as unworthy of the masquerade since they are stuck in their own self-absorbed tales. They are unaware that Madison, Cinderella’s best friend, obtained a ticket to the ball with a plus one. Cinderella's heart beats faster at the thought of leaving her stepmother's responsibilities and entering the real world as herself. Cinderella resists her step-family's efforts to keep her hidden and at home. With Madison's unwavering loyalty they sneak Cinderella out of the house and go to the masquerade. She enters the masquerade wearing a beautiful mask that hides her identity and is designed by herself. The Prince notices Cinderella among the flashing lights, and their connection goes beyond the virtual world.

As the evening progresses, Cinderella's true self emerges, capturing the Prince's heart, dancing all night with him, and lighting a spark that neither social media posts or pictures could capture. However, as midnight approaches, she realizes that she must return home before her stepmother and stepsister notices that she's gone. Cinderella gets an uber home, leaving her phone behind at the ball. The Prince notices and starts an online movement with hashtags and reposts to find who this phone belongs to. Multiple people try unlocking the phone but only Cinderella's face can unlock it.

Cinderella's step-family is still immersed in their virtual world and unaware of Cinderella's evening activities. Cinderella must deal with her stepfamily and her ownfears when the truth comes to light and her identity is made clear. She is determined to escape the prison in which she once lived. Cinderella expresses her value and requests acknowledgement for her authentic self with the help of Madison and her father, who has become aware of her difficulties.

2. The background of this story is based on the Cinderella from Into the Woods by Rob Marshall. After reviewing this movie, it brought up the question “what would Cinderella be like in 2023?” With that, I decided to keep the same idea of Cinderella finding her self-empowerment like in the movie, but with a twist. I will also be using ATU 510 “The heroine is abused by her stepmother and stepsisters” (mentally) and “She dances in beautiful clothing several times with a prince who seeks vain to keep her” with the motifs of “stepdaughter heroine” and “prince sees heroine at ball and is enamored”. Although I decided to keep the same idea of Cinderella which is what makes the story, Cinderella. I decided to make it as modern as possible with what I felt fits today’s society.

3. Text: My Modern Cinderella Story is about Cinderella who’s trapped in her stepmother and stepsisters social media world. Cinderella is hidden, unappreciated, and constrained by her family's digital fame. The masquerade ball hosted by the prince offers Cinderella the chance to break free from her prison. With the help of her best friend Madison, she is able to attend the ball and capture the prince’s heart. However, she has a curfew of midnight due to not wanting to be caught by her step family yet she forgets her phone at the ball. Madison and her father become aware of the full situation and help Cinderellaconfront her stepfamily, gain recognition for all her work, and most importantly establish her self worth.

Variant: My story shares motifs with ATU 510 “stepdaughter heroine” and “prince sees heroine at ball and is enamored”. Both my story and the traditional story contain a ball where her transformation is key.

Texture: My story is in written form with the traditional pattern of Olrik’s “laws” with the use of similar motifs and with Cinderella overcoming her hardships while attempting to transform her life.

Context: The traditional Cinderella involves Cinderella being abused at home, going to a ball behind her stepfamily’s back, getting help from her fairy godmother, meeting the prince, and leaving her glass slipper behind. The traditional audience of Cinderella being kids and teens.

Meaning: This variant is retaining Cinderella’s core values while providing a modern context.
