FINM1415, Semester 2 2022

Assessment Guidelines

General Information:

You are required to conduct a valuation of a real-world company throughout the semester.  You are expected to deliver an individual report on the company’s valuation (worth 30% of your grade) with two team presentations (30%).

Since this may be your rst project that involves industry practice, you will rstly be allocated into a team to work on some of the industry practice-related questions in the report and deliver your ndings in a team presentation.  The team presentation provides opportunities for you to share ideas and get feedback, which will help you to develop your individual report.

The timeline below would provide you with an overview of scheduled releasing and due dates of tasks. There are associated teaching sessions that will help you to build up your understanding of real-world case analysis.  Having noticed the scheduled tasks in figure 1 would help you stay organized and plan out your semester with a good start.

Figure 1: Assessment Timeline

Stage 1: Forming a team

In the fi rst tutorial session, your tutor will allocate you a team of 4 or 5 students, depending on the enrolment number of each tutorial.  In the tutorial, you will work with your team members and set out goals and meeting agendas.   If you have any issue with your team allocation, contact your tutor for advice before 13th August 2pm.

Stage 2: Flow of the tasks

1.  In week 3 and week 4’s tutorial, you will  have a chance to  practice your  presentation during the tutorial.   This presentation is not counted towards the nal grade,  but it provides a good opportunity for you to get some feedback that would help you to perform better in your later assessed presentations. The topics will be given on the blackboard in due courses.

2.  In week 6, your team will give a presentation on the company that you have been assigned, and you will be given a topic for the presentation.  The topic will be highly related to the individual report, so by preparing for your team presentation, you are also doing preparation works for your individual report.

3.  In week 10, you will be submitting your individual analysis report. We understand that the fi rst time working on real-world analysis can be challenging, and this would be your opportunity to gather thoughts and get exposure to these techniques.  If you actively participate in the presentations, you will fi nd a great lot of help to fi nish your assignment.

4.  In week 12, your team will give a presentation around portfolio analysis that incorporates the exist- ing company of your evaluation and the companies that your tutorial groups have been evaluating. At this stage, you would have learned something about companies from your other tutorial groups. And you will be expected to carry the discussion on them.

Stage 3: Peer Evaluation

Completing the Peer Assessment is mandatory for receiving the team assessment marks.  Your mark should be given based on both the team project report and the team presentation.

Your team members will mark you according to your contribution across four criteria:

1. Performance: Group member consistently demonstrated a high standard and completeness of work. And the group member’s work is not excluded from the nal submission due to the quality issue.

2. Collaboration: Group members consistently treated others respectfully, shared fi ndings with the team, and shared the workload fairly. And the group member is actively involved in group discus- sions and be able to ofer their opinions and be able to work with diferent opinions in a group.

3. Communication: Group members is easy to get in touch via email, messages.  And the group member attends meetings as scheduled on time.

4. Time management: Group members consistently completed assigned tasks on time. (An inferior performance would be a group member required intervention to complete assigned tasks on time, and hold up progress on the assessment because of incomplete work.)

Peer Assessment must be completed last and will be available on Blackboard after the team presentation. PAF opens on the 6pm 18th October to 2pm 27th October.
