Mid-Semester Exam Instruction

Semester Two, 2022

Please read this instruction carefully.

• Exam date: Friday 2 September 2022.

• Time: 6:40PM for Group 1 and 6:50PM for Group 2. Times are in AEST.

• Exam questions and Zoom link: You will find the exam questions, Wattle Quiz, Zoom link and submission links under the Mid-Semester Exam’block in the course page.

• Exam Reading/Writing/Submission: The Exam must be completed between 6:40PM (6:50PM) and 9:40PM (9:50PM) and the submission must be done by 10:10PM (10:20PM) for Group 1 (Group 2), respectively.

Mid-Semester Exam

(i.) The Mid-Semester Exam has two parts: Part I - Wattle Quiz and Part II - Exam Questions

where you will need to provide written answers.

(ii.) The Mid-Semester exam covers materials from Week 1 to Week 6 (inclusive).  For each

question in Part II of the exam, you must show your work and give the intuition of the result. Providing the final answer only with no explanation will get zero mark.

(iii.) You can start attempting the Part I - Quiz any time during the exam.  There will be 15

questions in the quiz for you to complete within an hour (60 minutes).   Be mindful of time management and allocate enough time to complete the quiz. There will be no second attempt or make-up quiz for any reasons.

Additional Details

(a) At 6:40PM for Group 1 and 6:50PM for Group 2 the Wattle link and the exam questions

file will become visible to you and you will be able to access them.

(b) At 9:40PM (9:50PM) the exam ends and you must stop writing. This means you have 180

minutes of reading + completing Wattle Quiz + writing time in total.

(c) You have up to 30 minutes to scan and submit your exam script. Hence you must submit your exam answers by 10:10PM (10:20PM). All submissions after this due time will NOT be accepted.

(d) Your exam can be handwritten or written on an electronic device.

(e) It is your responsibility to ensure that your handwriting is legible.  Markers reserve the

rights to not mark any illegible exam which would result a mark of zero.

(f) You must clearly write down your name and university ID on the top-left corner of the first

page of your submission.

(g) You must sort all of your answers to parts of a question into the same order as the corre-

sponding parts appear within that question on the exam question file.

(h) All writing and graphs must be facing upright (i.e.  your work must not be sideways or

upside down).

(i) You must scan answers to each question into separate files (PDF or Word document) and submit to corresponding links in the course page. Give the submission title and file name in the following format: Question number UniID (e.g. Q1 1234567)

• Question 1 (one file) must be submitted to QUESTION 1 submission link

• Question 2 (one file) must be submitted to QUESTION 2 submission link

• Question 3 (one file) must be submitted to QUESTION 3 submission link

•  ...

(j) You are strongly advised to practice with scanning and uploading before the exam if you

are not familiar with it. You can find a practice uploading links in the course page.

(k) You can submit your exam early, but it is your own responsibility to ensure that your

submission is successful.  Work submitted through any means other than the submission link will NOT be accepted.

(l) It is your responsibility to arrange stable internet connection during the exam. We strongly advise you to have a back-up internet solution in case you encounter an issue during the submission.

• Zoom invigilation

  Group 1 and Group 2 can join the Zoom session starting from 6:30PM and 6:40PM, re- spectively.  Details of the Zoom link will be provided on Wattle page on the day of the exam.

  Please be advised a random ID check will be done before or during the exam, so make sure you have an appropriate photo ID (student ID card or passport and your name must be written in English) available. You may be called into a break-out room for ID check if need be.

 You are required to keep your camera on during the exam time including scanning and uploading answers via Zoom meeting. If you are writing on paper your camera must face you showing your hand.  If you are writing on a tablet or similar your camera must see both you and screen of your tablet at all times. It is your responsibility to have adequate devices to satisfy this requirement.

  During the exam, you are required to post your official name in your Zoom profile.  Do not put your uni-ID or any other name that is difficult to pronounce (e.g. numbers or in a language other than English).
