1.1P: Reflection on Data-driven Information Systems around you
Overview
In this task, you will reflect on three data-driven information systems (applications or software) that you use in your daily life. For each system, you will explore the followings:
1. What is the system and what sort of data it uses?
2. How do you use the data? What would happen if that data was not available to you?
3. Who/how/where the data is generated, captured, stored, and managed?
4. Do you see any risks/concerns around security and privacy of the data?
For each of the three systems you selected, you are expected to answer the above questions in 300-500 words. So, your written report for this task with be between 1000-1500 words long. Please note that we are very strict in terms of word count, it can be up/down by 10% or so if your reflection answers all questions asked for each system. Please do your own research and try to collect as much information as possible. When you use information from other sources, remember the consequences of plagiarism. You CAN NOT do direct copy paste even if you provide proper in- text citations and bibliographic references at the end. Please see details on Academic Integrity and Referencing here. We recommend using Harvard style referencing but feel free to use any style you like but be consistent with it throughout the report including in-text citations in the text and bibliographic list of references at the end.

Submission Due
The due for each task has been stated via its OnTrack task information dashboard.
Submitting your work
Check that you are happy with your code and answers, and that you are ready to submit it to OnTrack for feedback.
1. Login OnTrack, select the unit and go to Task 1.1P.
2. Check the file you will need to upload.
3. Change the status of the task from Not yet Started / Working on It to Ready for Feedback
4. On the next screen you will need to align what you have done in the task to achieve Unit Learning Outcome(s) (ULOs). This process helps you to reflect on each work/task you do in the unit with respect to ULOs. Add a short reflective comment (around 50 words) to describe this, then move on to the next step.
5. In the last step you can add a comment to your tutor if you want, let them know if
there are any things you want them to focus on. Remember professional communications could help you exchange ideas of the core knowledge covered in the unit.
6. Finally, upload…
The file will be uploaded to the server, which will convert them into a PDF file that can be included in your portfolio. This file will be shown to your tutor who will review it and get back to you shortly with some feedback.

Task Completeness
A critical part of the portfolio-based assessment is the interactions you have with your tutor on your progress with the tasks and the development of your understanding of the associated concepts and skills. Once your tutor has checked your task, they will indicate i f you need to change/improve anything to meet the task’s expectations. You will be indicated by an OnTrack status, such as Resubmit, Redo, Discuss, or Demonstrate. This is your opportunity to highlight what you have learnt, or to get feedback on aspects you would like some support with. Once your resubmission and answers to the discussion/ demonstration are up to standard after an evaluation, your tutor will sign off your task as Complete.
You are highly recommended to submit your work as early as possible as back and forth communications on your tasks will be needed after your submission and before the task due date. Please note that you will not get a chance to resubmit/redo the task if it is submitted on or after the task’s due date.
