WRITING PROJECT

Selection of the project topic:

You may choose one of the topics below. It may be completed by a group with 2 to 5 students, or by individual as your choice. The group is formed via online chats or postings in the Discussion Board in Canvas that are arranged by the students who are interested in forming groups.

Option 1: Overview of Computer Languages

Option 2: How Computers Have Changed Our Lives

Option 3: We are Living in Silicon Valley - a field trip report

Description of Option 1: Overview of Computer languages

You must select at least three different computer languages and write your paper that includes the following paragraphs:

General Introduction -- purpose and importance of your project, statement of three computer languages you selected and way you completed your project.

Overview of the Language – consisting of the following subheadings and contents for each language:

1. brief history

2. purpose of the language

3. advantage/disadvantage of the language, and

4. applications (productivity software, utility programs, or operating systems, and so on) created by the language

Conclusion -- opinion, reaction, and comments about the computer languages you reviewed, and the direction of the future computer languages.

Reference -- use a separate page to list at least four resources you referred in your paper. Use any format as work-cited, but hyperlinks only are not acceptable.

Suggestion in selecting three computer languages -- C, C++, Java, C#, Visual Basic, PHP, Ruby, Python, Perl, JavaScript, and HTML.

Description of Option 2: How Computers Have Changed Our Lives

You must select at least three most important and particular computer technologies that impact on our work, education, economy, politics, society, and lives in general. Write your paper that includes the following paragraphs:

Introduction -- purpose and importance of your project or the topic you selected, what three computer technologies you discussed, and the way you completed your project.

The paragraphs of the study -- discuss, explain, and argue the three particular computer technologies that have impacted on our life and the future development that continuously influence our human society, and your personal life. There must be at least one paragraph talking about your own life.

Conclusion -- summary of your own opinion, reaction, and comments about the impact of the computer technologies in your study, and the direction of the future development of the computer technology.

Reference -- use a separate page to list at least four resources you referred in your paper. Use any format as work-cited, but hyperlinks only are not acceptable.

Suggestion in selecting three important computer technologies -- Wi-Fi, GPS, Smart TV, smartphone, embed computers, mobile apps, social networking, online education, online shopping, online banking, online entertainment, and e-commerce.

Description of Option 3: We are Living Silicon Valley - a field trip report

Organize your group or yourself to visit a local technology museum virtually and write a field trip report about the computer technologies you saw. You must select at least three computer technologies you are interested in the visiting that impact on your work, education, economy, politics, society, and lives in general. It could also deal with the history and future development of the Silicon Valley. Write your paper that includes the following paragraphs:

Introduction -- purpose and importance of your project or the topic you selected, three things you discussed, and the way you completed your project.

Paragraphs of the study -- discuss, explain, and argue the three important computer technologies you are interested in your visiting that have impacted on our life and the future development that continuously influence our human society, and your personal life. There must be at least one paragraph talking about your own life living the Silicon Valley.

Conclusion -- summary of your own opinion, reaction, and comments about the impact of the computer technologies in your study, the direction of the future development of the computer technology and what you have learned in this field trip.

Reference -- use a separate page to list at least four resources you referred in your paper. Use any format as work-cited, but hyperlinks only are not acceptable.

Format Requirement:

The following requirements are applicable for all of three options above:

1. Double-space; all margins are 1 inch; and page numbering.

2. Must use computerized word processing and saved in PDF file for your submission.

3. Must have a cover page with the title of the project, the course title and section number, your name and submission date.

4. Must have proper subtitles or/and headings.

5. About 10 to 15 pages long including cover page and references.

Submission Requirement:

Submitted via Canvas under Assignments link, click on Submit Assignment, File Upload, Choose File, and browse and locate the report file for the submission, then click on the Submit Assignment to complete your submission. You must submit it by the due day, with a cover page having the project title, student name and other information. If your project is a group effort, each student name in your group and the part he/she completed must be printed and each student must submit his/her own copy of the project (complete project, not just your parts), respectively.

Grading Policy:

1. If you complete the project by a group, group activities are must and will affect to your score of the project. If someone in your group did not make effort or contributed less, you must state that in the meeting log or a separate paper. I will grade the score accordingly; otherwise, everyone in a group will receive a same score.

2. Format and all requirements above must be followed.

3. If you complete the project by a group, the meeting log shown your group activities must be submitted with your paper. The meeting log of group activities including who, when, where, how, and what discussed in each group meeting.

4. Student whose name is not listed on the cover page and group meeting log at all will receive no credit.
