Practice Exam 2 v1
1) Two charges are placed on the y-axis. Charge q1 = 3μC is at the origin and charge q2 =25μC is at (x2, y2) = (0.0, 4.0m).
a) What is the electric field at the point S = (3.0m, 0.0)?
b) If a charge Q =-5μC is now placed at the point S what would be the force on this charge?
2) The circuit to the right has three resistors and two batteries. For the
particular values, V1= 13V, R1 = 1Ω, R2 = 24Ω, R3 = 6Ω, and the
current through resistor R1 is 1A. What is the value of V2 and the
currents in resistors R2 and R3?
3) As shown in the figure, an insulated wire is bent into a
circular loop of radius 6.0 cm and has two long straight
sections. The loop is in the xy-plane, with the center at
the origin. The straight sections are parallel to the z-
axis. The wire carries a current of 8.0 A. What is the
magnitude ofthe magnetic field at the origin?
4) A conducting rod whose length is ℓ = 27.0 cm is placed on
frictionless U-shaped metal rails that is connected to a lightbulb
having a resistance of 5.00 Ω as shown in the figure. The rails and
the rod are in the plane ofthe page. A constant uniform magnetic
field of strength 1.20 T is applied perpendicular to and out ofthe
paper. An external applied force moves the rod to the right with a
constant speed. At what speed should the rod be pulled so that the
lightbulb will consume energy at a rate of 1.10 W?
