Intended learning outcomes
As a result of participating in this assessment, students will be able to:
ILO 6. Conduct a basic analysis of financial statements from the perspectives of different stakeholder groups and interpret and evaluate financial statements and the results ofthe analysis.
ILO 7. Discuss and evaluate the limitations of financial reports, ratios and other tools and methods of financial analysis

25% of total assessment (no re-assessment will be allowed)
Submission date
Wednesday 31 March 2022 between 9am and 12 noon (Late submission penalties will be applied if your work is as little as a few minutes late)
Assessment task
You are required to:
• Form a group of five by Week 6 via Moodle (This assessment is group-based in order to build up teamwork and peer learning)
• Collaborate with other group members and equally contribute to the assignment (The forum provided in Moodle must be used to ensure that no student is disadvantaged by not having a particular social media account)
• Keep a record of each of your meetings, which will make up a meeting log of your group
• Provide information to 3 types of external user groups: 1) Shareholders, 2) Lenders, and 3) a third user group amongst suppliers, employees, and customers
• Provide in an excel file financial analysis, such as trend and ratio analysis, comparing 2 retailers (Morrisons and Tesco) for most recent 3 consecutive years
• Provide in a report your analysis of both quantitative and qualitative information from the companies’ annual reports and other external sources to help the selected users with decision-making
Format of coursework
• The report should be typed (12 point font size, double spacing)
• The student number of each member ofthe group should be listed on the front cover
• Do not disclose student names. The standard submission front cover should be used
• The paper should be no more than 2,000 words (The word count excludes front cover, references and meeting log). In accounting, it is important to be succinct when presenting the results of analysis
• Attach the excel file to your assignment
A sample report structure
1. Introduction (approximately 250 words):
- Brief introduction of2 companies
- Brief introduction of 3 user groups
2. Main body (approximately 1500 words):
- Provide information for current and potential shareholders (approximately 500 words)
- Provide information for current and potential lenders (approximately 500 words)
- Provide information for your chosen third user group (approximately 500 words)
- The information should be derived from your own analysis of both qualitative and quantitative data for them to make informed decisions
- Deploy graphs/diagrams to make the report more user-friendly
3. Conclusion (approximately 250 words):
- Brief overall assessments ofthe companies for the selected user groups
- Limitations ofthe report

- As each group member is to equally contribute to the assignment, each of your group members will be awarded the same grade based on the criteria below

You are not required to provide a reference list for this assignment if you use the annual reports, class material, and textbooks. Otherwise, provide a list of references (You can choose any referencing style as long as your chosen style is used consistently).

Meeting log
A record should also be kept of all group meetings. This should be attached to the assignment as an appendix. This record should show the date of each meeting, the student number of those who attended (Do not disclose student names), the main items discussed and the main decisions taken. This record does not need to be very detailed – one to two pages are sufficient. Please note that it is a requirement that this log is included in your submission.
If you feel that some group members are not contributing fairly to the group, then you should immediately contact Dr Paul Ahn. A meeting will be arranged to discuss the situation and the student(s) concerned may be required to submit an individual report rather than being considered to be part ofthe group.
