Essay topic. Choose one of three topics to research and write a 1,500 word essay.

1)    McQuail and Deuze (2020, p. 460) describe the concept of audience as complicated and illusory. Why? Draw on course theory from week 1-4 in order to substantiate your answer and to identify the ramifications of theorising audiencefor public relations and/or advertising practice. 

2)    Fill and Turnbull (2016, p. 13-15) state that engagement with marketing communications results in thinking and feeling audience responses that lead to tangible actions. Engage with at least two of the course theories from week 1-4 in order to explain how persuasive public relations and/or advertising achieve engagement. 

3)    Nathalie Maréchal (2018) states that targeted advertising is the lifeblood of the mass forms of media of today and she asserts that this is killing the internet and ruining society. Is she exaggerating? Draw on course theory from week 1-4 in discussing the pros and cons of targeted advertising for both marketers and audiences?
