Summary
There is a singular summative assessment. Within the context of a mini-festival, you will perform a work created using techniques explored in the seminars, devised for your chosen instrument. The performance will be accompanied by a written commentary (including score excerpts as appropriate) which discusses decisions made during the preparatory process, reflecting knowledge derived from theoretical considerations. Composition students may elect to present their work through a verbal presentation; students choosing this option are expected to demonstrate a deeper level of engagement in analytical processes.

Guidelines

There is a singular summative assessment. Within the context of a mini-festival, you will perform a work created using techniques explored in the seminars, devised for your chosen instrument, which should be in response to an existing piece of repertoire. The performance will be accompanied by a written commentary (including score excerpts as appropriate) which discusses decisions made during the preparatory process, reflecting knowledge derived from theoretical considerations. Composition students may elect to present their work through a verbal presentation; students choosing this option are expected to demonstrate a deeper level of engagement in analytical processes.

You will receive feedback and a grade considering the following criteria:

Pass Requirements

Your work will be assessed using the following component-specific assessment criteria:
  • interpretation/creative input;
  • musical responsiveness;
  • musicianship;
  • technical control and accuracy; and
  • presentation.

Feedback on assessments

Formative feedback will be integrated within the teaching and learning process throughout the module. Students receive further feedback through individual tutorials that support the preparation of the Principal Study 1 assessment that incorporates learning from this component.

Written feedback on assessments is returned to students within 21 working days in accordance with the Trinity Laban Policy on Feedback on Assessed Work.

You will receive a provisional grade that will be ratified by the assessment board and feedback within 21 calendar days of the assessment date. For submissions any work up to 24 hours late incurs a 10 mark penalty. Any work after that date is graded at zero. Students are usually offered a resit opportunity for a capped grade (Pass] Re-sits decisions sit with the Assessment Board.

The original circumstance of the assessment may not be able to be replicated for extended or deferred assessment submissions and re-sits. If this is the case an alternative mode of assessment or assessment submission will be Ext/deferred submissions are to be submitted to Moodle as recorded video performance / presentation.
