PART A: CLIMATE CHANGE COMMUNICATION PIECE- implementing your plan from Assessment 3
Word count: equivalentto1000words (+/-10% excluding references), depending on format
Note: transcript word counts for videos and podcasts will be slightly shorter than for news articles or blog posts due to the nature of those formats (e.g., transitions, speaking rates, footage etc. and the additional technical editing workload). Please use the length (time) requirement as the guide for appropriate length of video and podcast formats rather than the transcript word count.
Instructions: Prepare a communication piece in line with your Assessment 3 plan, addressing an aspect of climate chanae that applies key concepts we have studied this semester. You will need to apply what you have learned throughout this course to improve upon and implement what you planned in Assessment 3 for a specific climate change issue selected from the list of topics below (as per Assessment 3).
1. Fast fashion
2. Low emission transport3. Food (food security or low emission diets)
To address your chosen topic, your communication piece may take any one of the following formats and should match the format from your plan in Assessment 3:
- news article/s of 1000 words plus images and hyperlinked sources in the template below
- blog post/s of 1000 words plus images and hyperlinked sources in the template below
- podcast/s totalling 5-7 minutes, with the transcript and podcast hyperlink (e.g., Google Drive link) included in the template below
- video explainer/s totalling 5-7 minutes, with the transcript and video hyperlink (e.g., Google Drive link) included in the template below
You will need to incorporate your feedback from Assessment 3 and what you have learned since submitting that work, to communicate about your chosen climate change topic just as you would if you were managing a similar communication project as part of a work role.
References must be included as per the submission template provided.
PART B: REFLECTION-reflecting on revising and implementing your plan
Word count:1000 words(+/-10%)
Instructions: Prepare a critical reflection on your experience of revising your plan and developing your communication piece.
The reflection should include:
- An explanation of the feedback you received on Assessment 3 and how you addressed it
- A summary of the key course concepts from Weeks 9 to 12 that you used to improve your communication piece's design and how you applied them
- Critical self-reflection on what you learned by making your communication piece and how this might affect your future climate change communication activities.
MARKING CRITERIA (see rubric for details):
- Ability to design and implement effectively targeted communication piece, applying relevant unit theories and concepts(50%)
- Ability to reflect on decision making and personal experiences, making links between feedback, course content, learning and application of knowledge (35%)
- Effective and appropriate presentation(15%)
Additional information for achieving high marks:
An HD for the first marking criteria Ability to design and implement effectively targeted communication piece, applying relevant unit theories and concepts would include:
1. communicated messages and format (including visuals/audio) that are highly relevant to the target audience and the issue (which is appropriate), accurate, skillfully and clearly framed, aligned, and with logical flow
2. facts and assertions that are supported by well-chosen, trustworthy references
3. strong evidence of skillful application of highly appropriate course concepts in a highly effective communication piece
4. features of the chosen format/platform that are skillfully utilised to optimise the effectiveness of the piece
An HD for the second marking criteria Ability to reflect on decision making and personal experiences, making links between feedback, course content, learning and application of knowledge would include:
1. strong evidence of learning from feedback on Assessment 3 to improve communication piece design (if improvement was required)
2. clear and succinct explanations of how the most relevant concepts from Weeks 9 to 12 were integrated to improve the piece design
3. a sophisticated response demonstrating a high degree of insight, depth and critical judgement in the interpretation and evaluation of the learning experience with sophisticated observations that reflect personal perspective using specific examples from the artefact
An HD for the third marking criteria Effective and appropriate presentation would include:
1. using the template and providing complete information, including the full transcript/text
2. work that is highly polished and expressed in concise and engaging ways
3. work within the prescribed word/time limits
4. at least 8 suitable references appropriately cited for the chosen piece format and reference list is well-formatted
