Opens: Monday,13 April 2026, 9:00 AM

Due: Friday, 1 May 2026,11:55 PM

Purpose: To demonstrate your understanding and ability to apply the concepts and techniques covered in this unit in the design of a piece of climate change communication.

Contributes to learning outcomes:

This assessment contributes to the following learning outcomes depending on the topic selected:

3. Critically analyse aspects of human beliefs and behaviour associated with climate change and how they relate to climate change communication;

4.Critically evaluate the political context of climate change in Australia and internationally and its impact on climate change communication and action;

5.Communicate climate change and related issues to a broad range of audiences.

Word limit:1000 words (+/-10% excluding references)

Value: 25%

Instructions:

The communication piece discussed in this plan is what you will later develop and submit for Assessment 4, so this assessment allows you to get feedback on your design and will help you achieve the best possible grade for Assessment 4.

Using the attached template, design your proposed Assessment 4 public communication piece.

You can choose any one of the following climate change-related topics as the focus for your work:

1. Fast fashion
2. Low emission transport
3. Food (food security or low emission diets)
The template requires you to follow a series of steps to develop the critical design aspects of your proposed communication piece, including:

  • Step 1: Deciding where to focus (topic)
  • Step 2: Deciding who to target (audience) and why (purpose)
  • Step 3: Deciding what format & channel will reach them
  • Step 4: Deciding what strategies will engage them
  • Step 5: Deciding what to say (messages)
  • Step 6: Deciding on supporting visuals(if relevant)
  • Step 7: Deciding on supporting audio (if relevant)
This plan will help ensure you are pursuing the right format and approach for your topic and audience and gives you the opportunity to receive feedback on your design before starting to create your final communication piece.
An example plan is also provided, so you can better understand what is expected.
