This individual coursework counts 70% toward your final course mark.

Course Learning Outcomes: This coursework has been designed to test your achievement of the following course learning outcomes:

Coursework instructions:

You are required to write a 2000-word (+-10% of the total word count) report, selecting one of the industry pairs provided below. For example, if you are interested in the online retailing industry, you may choose Amazon UK vs Argos. The industries and company pairs are as follows:

The report is structured into four key sections:

Provide a brief overview of the report, introducing the selected companies and the focus of the analysis.

Comparison of Operations Strategy: Company A vs Company B (Approx. 500 words)

Introduce the two companies and their value propositions.

Discuss how the companies compete in relation to the five operations performance objectives —quality, speed, dependability, flexibility, and cost. Your analysis should identify two primary strategic priorities for each company. For example, Ryanair competes predominantly on cost, supported by speed, while Turkish Airlines emphasises flexibility and dependability in its service offering.

Highlight sustainability considerations in their operations strategies.

Use academic resources and company reports to support your analysis (note that company and industry reports do not count as academic citations).

Summarise the key findings and implications of your analysis.

Coursework Submission deadline: The assessment is due before 16:00 (UK) on March 2026. You will gain access to the assignment submission page only after you have completed the 'Declaration of Authorship' Quiz.

Late Submissions of coursework. In line with University Policy, any work submitted after the set date and time will automatically have a penalty applied. The penalty is a reduction by 30% of the mark awarded. Submission will be accepted up to five working days after the submission deadline - your work will be marked, the late penalty applied, and you will receive feedback. Coursework submitted after five working days will be awarded NO grade and you willnot be entitled to feedback.

Extensions. No extensions for coursework are permitted unless an extension is given to the whole class (in exceptional circumstances). The course leader cannot grant individualextensions. If you foresee  having issues submitting by the deadline, please contact your Personal ,Tutor and apply for Mitigating Circumstances (MC) via the student portal.

Feedback on your work will be returned to you before 17 April 2026. We will let you know if this date changes.

Transparency: Clearly indicate where and how generative AI tools were used in your work. For instance, you may include a statement such as: “Generative AI tools were used to assist in structuring the introduction and refining the language in Section 3.”

Referencing: If generative AI contributes to specific content, provide proper acknowledgement in a manner consistent with academic integrity. For example, “The ideas presented in this paragraph were partially inspired by outputs generated through [Tool Name], accessed on [Date].”

Critical Review: Always critically evaluate AI-generated content to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment with academic standards.

If you use AI tools for your reference list, please ensure the results are accurate; falsified referencing is a form of academic misconduct, and you may be penalised if we cannot confirm the citation.

Failure to appropriately acknowledge the use of generative AI tools may result in academic penalties.
