Assessment Task

For this group assessment, you will deliver a digital debate presentation on a current ethical or strategic issue related to information systems (ISs). Building on Assessment 2, your group will take a clear stance on the topic and support it using real-world IS concepts, ethical frameworks and

sustainability principles. In your preparation, you will use Generative AI (GenAI) tools and include their use in your group presentation.Please refer to the Instructions for details on how to complete this task.

Context

In today’s digital business environment, organisations face complex ethical and strategic challenges involving ISs, from AI-driven decision making to sustainability trade-offs and workforce automation.

This assessment invites you to evaluate these dilemmas through a structured group debate in which you critically apply ethical reasoning to explore multiple perspectives and justify your position using real-world IS concepts.

Through collaboration, your team will plan, coordinate and deliver a persuasive digital presentation that mirrors professional scenarios such as stakeholder negotiations. You will strengthen your oral communication by presenting complex ideas clearly and confidently, and build your digital literacy by integrating GenAI tools to enhance, critique and reflect on your arguments. These SMART SKILLS are essential for navigating the evolving digital workplace with integrity and impact.

Instructions

For this assessment task, you will deliver a group debate presentation on an ethical or strategic issue in ISs. You will take a clear stance, apply IS concepts and use GenAI tools to support your presentation.

To complete your digital group debate, follow the steps below.

Step 1: Form a Group
• Form a group of 2–4 students.

• Refer to the Group Formation Guidelines for instructions on registering your group.

Step 2: Select a Debate Topic
Choose one of the following ethical or strategic IS topics:
 The organisation’s use of AI-driven customer analytics raises serious ethical concerns about data privacy.
 Employee displacement due to automation is an unavoidable and acceptable consequence of digital transformation.
 Smart technology in industry creates more sustainability hype than real impact.
 Digital loyalty programs undermine sustainability by encouraging more consumption, not less.
 GenAI should be used in customer service roles, even if it replaces human interactions.

Groups may also propose their own topic, but it must be approved by the learning facilitator.

Step 3: Prepare Your Debate
• Carefully review your Assessment 2 case study and task brief to ensure your arguments are
grounded in the context of your prior analysis.
• Clearly define your position on the topic.
• Apply relevant IS concepts and technologies to justify your stance.
• Prepare structured arguments and rebuttals to opposing views.
Step 4: Integrate GenAI Tools
• Use GenAI to support your preparation (e.g., brainstorming visual design and simulating stakeholder perspectives).
• Include a slide titled ‘Group AI Discussion’, explaining how you used GenAI ethically and responsibly.
Step 5: Structure the Presentation
Plan a 10–15 minute presentation with the following format:
• opening statements
• main arguments
• rebuttals
• conclusion.

Ensure each member actively contributes. Use at least four visuals or slides to enhance clarity and engagement. The recorded video file should clearly show the slide presentation.

Step 6: Rehearse and Record
• Rehearse as a group to ensure smooth delivery and timing.
• Record your final debate using MS Teams or equivalent.
• Ensure all members are visible on camera and the video is clear, well-paced and within the time limit.
Step 7: Peer Evaluations
• Complete an individual Peer Evaluation Form of your group members.
• Submit your evaluation privately as instructed.
Submission Instructions

Your Digital Group Debate should be presented as a 10–15-minute video recording in MP4 format. Only ONE member needs to submit the video recording on behalf of the group. The peer evaluation

form needs to be submitted individually.
