• Critically evaluate aspects of UK economic performance and policy
• Apply understanding of economic concepts to real-world situations
• Demonstrate an understanding of how economic theory is used to formulate policy
Your submission will be marked using the Grading Criteria given below.Assignment:
This assessment is in two PARTs. All students should complete both PARTs.
• PART B is worth 35% of the grade. Word limit: 500 words.
Suppose you are an Economic Advisor working for the Prime Minister's Delivery Unit at Number 10 Downing Street. The Chief Economist has asked you to write a short two PART report:
• PART A of the report should set out two policy interventions that could be used to tackle rising crime levels. It should then provide a theoretical economic analysis that illustrates why each of these interventions may be expected to reduce crime levels.
Finally, it should critically discuss the extent to which academic evidence supports the effectiveness of each policy in reducing crime.
• PART B of the report should explain the concept of opportunity cost. Using a range of relevant examples, it should then describe why and how the concept is related to UK policy making. These examples can relate to policy areas covered in the module (including crime prevention policies) or other areas of policy.
Referencing: use the Harvard system of referencing for this question.
Word limit: 1,500 words +10%. Diagrams, data plots and equations are excluded from the word count. The list of references at the end of the report is also excluded. However, in-text citations are included in the word count.
