Assessment Task
Students are to create an original design for a textile fabric or wallpaper. The design should explore relevant textile design categories and printing styles, as well as motifs, geometric and border patterns. It should be expressed in three (3) different designs or patterns, connected by a theme or idea.
Context
“The repetition of pattern gives us rest. The marvels of designs stir the imagination.” Oscar Wilde
The final design should be original and articulated in three (3) different designs, such as a combination of motif designs, border designs, or complementary geometric forms, connected by an overarching idea. Students will need to explore scale, pattern, and colour prior to producing their final design outcomes.
Students should nominate an area of a residential environment where they see their design utilised and present a contextual application (using Photoshop or similar application) of their design in this environment.
The final design outcomes will be presented in a five (5) minute audio-digital recorded presentation. This presentation will show the detailed inspiration, experimentation, and progression of your designs, as well as the final outcome of the textile design.
Instructions
Prepare a five (5) minute audio-visual presentation that explores your design development, design processes and final inspiration for your designs. The presentation should demonstrate exploration with scale, pattern and colour, and include sketching or prototyping. It will show the contextual application (using Photoshop or similar application) of all three designs in a residential environment, and full-screen images of the designs. You should use only point-form text, and carefully selected images to illustrate your outcomes.
Referencing
It is essential that you use appropriate APA style for citing and referencing research. Please see more information on referencing in the Academic Skills webpage.
