Tutorial 5

You are given an incomplete smart home topology file.

Follow the steps below to complete the topology and verify your configuration. Open the Tutorial 05 Cisco Packet Tracer file and save as Tutorial 05_Connect and Monitor IoT Devices.

Instructions

1.   Open the file Tutorial 05_Cisco Packet Tracer and save it as:

Tutorial05_Connect_and_Monitor_IoT_Devices.pkt

2.   Configure all IoT devices so that they are connected to the Home Gateway.

3.   Make sure all devices can be monitored using the Tablet.

4.   Add motion detectors near the light and the fan.

5.   Add a Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector to the smart home system and configure the device.

6.   Create two automation rules as follows:

•   When the carbon monoxide level is higher than a specified threshold, the garage door opens automatically.

•   When the carbon monoxide level is lower than the threshold, the garage door closes automatically.

Justify the threshold value you selected for the carbon monoxide level. Explain why this range is appropriate for triggering the garage door to open and close.

7.   Create an automation rule so that when motion is detected, the light turns on.

8.   Create an automation rule so that when motion is detected, the fan turns on with high speed.

9.   Add a lawn sprinkler and create a condition so that when a certain temperature is reached (you may defined your own range), the sprinkler starts spraying water.

10. Choose one new IoT device (not already available in the given topology), add it to the smart home system, and configure the device based on your own chosen automation rule. Clearly explain the purpose of the device and the condition you created.

11. Draw the network architecture diagram for your smart home system. Clearly identify the following layers:

•   Perception Layer

•   Network layer

•   Application layer

12. Verify and test that all devices and the network are properly connected and configured.

13. Save your completed file in Packet Tracer format (.pkt).

14. Take screenshots showing:

•   device connectivity

•   automation rules

•   monitoring using the tablet

13. Paste all screenshots into a Word file and list all group members’ names.

14. Name your Word file using the following format:

Filename_SecXX_GroupNople

15. Upload your Word file and the Packet Tracer File to MyTimes – Tutorial 05 submission link.

Note:

•    You must remain in the same group as Assignment 02.

•    This activity contributes 1 mark to Assignment 02.

•    Make sure your work is submitted before the deadline.
