Assessment 1: Description
Students create a short film illustrating a core economic principle (e.g., scarcity, opportunity cost, supply and demand, elasticity, price control, etc). The film should use real-world or everyday examples.
The short film must
1. Identify the concept illustrated
2. Explain the relevant economic theory
3. Connect the example to broader economic principles
4. Include at least one reference (textbook, lecture, scholarly source)
Academic Integrity Safeguards: - Original footage only (no downloads or AI-generated content) - Title card with student name/ID - Reflection submitted through dropbox safeassign.

Submission:
Please submit (1) 2-3 min video (2) Script (in word) to Assessment 1 submission folder before the due date and due time.
Keep the notification email from LearnJCU (Submission received) as the evidence.

Assessment 2: Description
The aim of this assessment is for you to apply foundational microeconomic concepts and theory learned in weeks 1-5 to a scenario and for you to demonstrate written communication skills. There are three topic scenarios available (access folder ‘Assessment 2’ via LearnJCU) from which students are to select only one.
Step 1: Select a topic of interest from the three scenarios provided within our LearnJCU Assessment 2 folder.
Step 2: Explore relevant readings on your chosen topic. For example, if on market inefficiencies read chapter 7 of your textbook. Research literature including any grey literature which may provide real data on the chosen topic. For help on how to find journal articles go to https://libguides.jcu.edu.au/economics.
Step 3: Develop a five-slide analysis presentation in PowerPoint, along with a written script, which includes the following:
· Your name, your course enrolment (e.g. Bachelor or Diploma of x) and chosen topic [Slide # 1]. These words will not contribute towards word count.
· A written commentary of 500 words in the Presenter Notes of your PowerPoint that relate to Slides 2, 3 and 4. This commentary is to be written as if you are going to present to an audience, so make sure that the text can be spoken in a clear, logical and engaging way. Your commentary should provide an explanation of the relevant economic concepts/theories and analysis of these within the context of the chosen scenario. Note. Once you have finalised your script in PowerPoint, copy and paste the text into a Word Document for submission, indicating which slide the sections of text refer to.
· Your PowerPoint slides should only include key ideas, images or quotations. Make sure the slides are not just duplicating the commentary.
· You are encouraged to locate real data/research on the chosen topic.
· Provide references in APA format [Slide #5]. These will not contribute towards word count. For help on how to reference go to https://libguides.jcu.edu.au/apa
Step 4: You are to submit two files: (1) A PDF of your Powerpoint + Speaker Notes) and (2) A copy of your Speaker Notes in a Word doc.
Instructions for Converting your PowerPoint to PDF + Speaker Notes
1) From within PowerPoint, select File>Export
2) Click Create Adobe PDF
3) You will be asked if you want to convert speaker notes into annotations. Click YES.
*Note: Please make sure you only have 5 slides maximum with 500 words of speaker notes. Only the first 5 slides and the first 500 words in the written commentary will be graded. Word exceeding 500 words in the written commentary will NOT be graded.

Assessment 2: Rubric Marking Criteria
You will be assessed on your ability to:
1. Construct a clear and logical argument (30 marks)
2. Explain relevant microeconomic concepts and analyse the selected issue in a thoughtful and insightful way (30 marks)
3. Incorporate findings or advice from the literature into your argument (20 marks)
4. Communicate and present your argument in an effective and engaging way (20 marks)

Assessment 3: Description
The aim of this assessment is for you to write a media article. In the media article, you will apply foundational macroeconomic concepts and theory learned in weeks 6-10 and analyse macroeconomic data and make an informed judgement on the future actions of government. The detailed instruction of the topic will be available in LearnJCU on Monday in week 10.
Detailed instructions on assessment 3 will be given in the synthesis sessions and tutorials in week 8/9.

You will be assessed on your ability to:
1. Explain relevant macroeconomic concepts and analyse economic data in insightful way (20 marks)
2. Incorporate findings or advice from information sources and economic indicators into your argument (20 marks)
