Formative Assessment

Formative  Assessment  is  provided  through  formative  oral  feedback  from  peers and/or tutor(s) within scheduled Seminars. This is based on diverse practices such as  ongoing   monitoring  of  student   progress  through   interaction,  overall  student performance, discussion and feedback of the coursework in the physical/discussion board. The nature of the techniques used are at the discretion of the module leader in collaboration with the tutor(s).

Summative Assessment

The  Summative  Assessment  is  designed  in  such  a  way  so  that  students  work individually  to  reflect  on  the  knowledge  and  portray  their  understanding  of  the module  materials.  Emphasis  is  placed  upon  the  development  of  business  skills, awareness of questions related to business growth, the nature of entrepreneurial individuals, as well as the value of ethics and creativity within the business growth area. Lecture materials will cover topics need to be discussed in the essay.

Pre and Post Assessment Clinics will be held during the semester. Students will have  the  opportunity  to  familiarise  themselves  with  the   assessment   brief  and marking criteria and receive feedback via the seminars.

Assessment Overview:

Students will be required to do 2 assessments within this module (one in Semester 1 and one in Semester 2). This Assessment Brief is for Semester 1 only.

Assessment for Semester 1 - Essay

1,500-word essay (excluding bibliography and cover page)

The assessment has two parts.

1.  Using semester 1 material: discuss business growth (50%).

2.  Choose one key topic we've looked at in semester 1 (are entrepreneurs born or made; Illegitimate and legitimate business growth; threats to business

growth; how important is creativity to business growth). As a student at the start of their learning journey, discuss why the topic matters to someone   understanding business growth (50%).

Lecture materials and recommended reading are provided to help with writing the essay. Essay workshops occur at the end of the semester 1, where students can get formative feedback on essay plans.

Essays will be marked in line with the marking grid below and in relation to instructions given in lectures.
