ASSESSMENT 1: TUTORIAL ACTIVITIES

Weeks 1-5 and 7-10, during tutorials

20% (14% Engagement, Quizzes, 6%)

Tutorial Activities are about the extent to which you contribute to this course. Effective professionals are fully engaged with a task at hand; being an effective professional involves deep engagement with your colleagues, class activities, assessment tasks, and other potential sources of insight offered by this course. Thus, when you are fully prepared, present, and proactively engage in tutorials and other course activities, we all benefit.

There are two ways of earning tutorial activities marks.

1A TUTORIAL ENGAGEMENT

To help create a learning community, where we collectively help each other to get the most out of the course, you will be expected to engage actively in tutorials. Attend every tutorial and come prepared by being familiar with the class materials covered that week. Not all students are comfortable speaking up in tutorials, and your engagement is not simply a function of how much or how often you speak in class. Rather, it is about the quality of your contribution, whether you demonstrate knowledge of class materials, whether you advance the level and depth of the discussions in class, whether you participate fully in tutorial activities and tutorial-related or assessment-related activities, and whether you demonstrate excellent interpersonal behaviours (by listening to other students effectively and respectively, asking good questions, enhancing group dynamics, helping others, etc.).

You can earn up to 2 tutorial engagement marks for each tutorial in Weeks 1-5 and 7-10. At the end of the term, your two lowest tutorials will be dropped and only your best 7 tutorials count towards your final mark. The maximum tutorial engagement mark that can be earned is 14 marks.

A table with a detailed marking rubric for tutorial engagement is included at the end of this document.

1B TUTORIAL QUIZZES

In Weeks 2-5 and 7-10, there will be a short quiz during each tutorial in order to help you to review and extend your learning. The pedagogical benefits of weekly quizzes include a) providing accountability for learning class materials each week, b) spreading out assessments over the term (which provides ongoing feedback and should avoid end-of-term stress associated with major assessments), c) reinforcing the importance of attending tutorials, and d) improving tutorial performance, learning, and discussions. The format of the quizzes may differ from week to week but will usually be in the form of multiple-choice or short-answer questions. Specific instructions and evaluation criteria will be provided during each tutorial.

You can earn up to 1 mark for each quiz. At the end of the term, your two lowest quizzes will be dropped and only your best 6 quizzes count towards your final mark. Thus, the maximum mark that can be earned is 6 marks.

The quizzes will cover the week's lecture and reading material. To prepare for the weekly quizzes, carefully study the relevant textbook chapters and all materials in the Moodle folder for that week.

ASSESSMENT #2:

KEY CONCEPTS VIDEO ASSESSMENT

Friday, October 10, 4:00pm (Week 4)

Individual Assessment

30%

Video recording via provided submission link

5 Questions, each requiring a 2-minute response each

Video is automatically uploaded via provided link

KEY CONCEPTS VIDEO ASSESSMENT

For this assessment, you will be required to record short video responses to answer a set of questions related to the concepts and theories covered in Weeks 1-4. The goal of this assignment is to assess your ability to concisely express your understanding and perspectives on key course concepts in a multimedia format. The questions will allow you to demonstrate your understanding of course concepts and to apply them to you authentically in a meaningful way. Many large organisations use video interviews for graduates, so this assessment will give you an opportunity to practice using a similar process and to develop your communication and critical thinking skills.

The assessment link will be available on Moodle from Monday, October 4, and you can complete the assessment at a time of your choosing prior to the deadline on Friday, October 10 at 4:00pm.

You will be asked to record your responses to five pre-recorded questions. Questions will cover Week 1 and 3 lectures and textbook chapters 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7. Each answer can be up to two minutes long and can only be recorded once. The assessment will take less than 15 minutes to complete.

A practice assessment can be completed here: https://tinyurl.com/2y69dsle. This is optional and will not be marked, but it will allow you to familiarise yourself with the technology and the question-and-answer format, if you wish to do so.

You can complete this assessment on a computer or smartphone. For best results, ensure you are in a quiet room with a stable internet connection and adequate lighting. We recommend using the Chrome browser on any computer or smartphone. If you are using an iPhone, please use Safari.

A table with a detailed marking rubric for this assessment is included at the end of this document. It details the specific criteria on which your answers will be marked.

ASSESSMENT #3:

EVEREST TEAM PRESENTATION

Moodle Assignment Submission, accessible via ‘Assessments Hub’ on Moodle

EVEREST TEAM PRESENTATION

Please note that attendance in the Week 5 lecture and Week 8 tutorial is required for  successful completion of this assessment.

During the Week 5 lecture, all students will take part in a team-based simulation that involves a  challenging expedition toward the summit of Mt. Everest. The aim of this team simulation and  assessment is to foster a collaborative learning environment where you can apply management  theories and concepts in a team context.

The simulation enables you to learn how teams can solve problems and make decisions more  effectively in difficult situations. This will help you develop teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills, essential in any management role. As a result, you will gain insights into how teams  can improve the way they make decisions.

Your tutor will assign you to a 5-person team in the Week 4 tutorial. After completing the Everest team simulation in Week 5, your team is asked to prepare and deliver a presentation reflecting on  your team’s experience of the Everest simulation considering concepts and theories encountered  in MGMT2004.

The presentation should be no longer than 7 minutes and will be presented during the Week 8  tutorial. Each team member should play an active part in the presentation.

Each presentation will be rated by the tutor as well as all other students, and team members will  be asked to rate each other’s contribution and engagement for this assessment.

Your team’s presentation should address the following components:

• Description and analysis of your Everest team experience and team processes. In what  ways did your team function effectively? What were some key opportunities for  improvement? Base your analysis on concepts and theories from MGMT2004.

• Critical analysis of your team’s results in the simulation. Incorporate concepts and  theories from MGMT2004 in your analysis.

• A brief conclusion summarising what your team has learned from the experience.

A table with a detailed marking rubric for this assessment is included at the end of this  document. It details the specific criteria on which your team’s presentation will be marked.

Submission procedure: Submit your presentation as a PowerPoint or pdf file. Please include the  tutorial code (e.g., T12A) and the last names of all group members in the files name.

ASSESSMENT #4:

PERSONAL REFLECTION VIDEO ANALYSIS

Friday, November 21, 4:00pm (Week 10)

Individual Assessment

30%

Video file

6-minute video

Moodle Assignment Submission, accessible via ‘Assessments Hub’ on Moodle

CREATE A VIDEO TO SELF-REFLECT ON YOUR OWN ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR AND MANAGERIAL SKILLS

Your final assessment invites you to reflect on the personal insights you have gained throughout this course. For the successful completion of this assessment, it is expected and necessary that you have completed all self-assessment activities throughout the term (i.e., the Big Five personality test in Week 2, the emotional intelligence test in Week 3, the Portrait Values Questionnaire in Week 7, the Personal Leadership Assessment in Week 9, and a Everest team leadership simulation in Week 5). Doing so will have helped you to gather valuable data about yourself.

The Personal Reflection Video Analysis provides an opportunity to synthesise these insights, integrating them with the key concepts and theories explored in the course. Through this process, you are encouraged to develop a deeper understanding of your strengths, weaknesses, and potential for growth as both a person and a leader. This reflection challenges you to connect these insights to organisational behaviour theories and critically consider how they will shape your future personal and professional success.

Please create a video no longer than 6 minutes that addresses the following two questions:

• What have you learned about yourself and your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to organisational behaviour and managerial skills? Please be specific and use examples and data from the self-assessment activities to support your points and draw on specific course concepts in your analysis.

• How will you use these lessons and leverage your strengths and weaknesses to enhance your professional and personal growth? Be specific and link your reflections to relevant theories and concepts from the course.

There is no required format for the video, and you can be creative in how you want to present the information most effectively. However, it is highly recommended that you use effective visual aids (e.g., slides, screen shots) to present relevant data and support your main points.

A table with a detailed marking rubric for this assessment is included at the end of this document. It details the specific criteria on which your submission will be marked.

Submission procedure: Create a 6-minute video. Because large video files cannot be submitted via Moodle, host the video file on UNSW OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Youtube, or similar services and submit the link via the Moodle Assignment submission link. Please ensure that the privacy settings are set so that the video can be watched by your tutor. Enter the link to the video in the Comments section of the Moodle submission link (or, alternatively, upload a Word or PDF document that contains the link to your video). Please include your last name in the file name.
