Assessment 3: Manual Drafting Portfolio

Submission date and time: 24th  October 2025, 11:59 pm

Weightage: 40%

Type: Individual

You are required to produce basic 2D technical drawings of a small house by hand using drafting instruments and implementing drafting techniques learned over this course. It consists of a one-level building with one living room, one bedroom, one toilet, and one covered porch. Please refer to the 'Assessment 3 drawings' PDF for the drawings to be replicated. Please note that these drawings are deliberately out of scale and heavily distorted. You should refer to them only to identify the required elements, dimensions, symbols, and annotations to include in your own drawings. As such, your drawings should  not  be  replicas  of the  ones provided in that PDF file.

The assessment will take into account the application of the appropriate techniques in the development of your drawings. To help with the marking process, you must leave some construction lines in your drawings (do not erase all of them) to provide additional evidence of the process of constructing them.

Please be advised that both transferring measurements from the original drawings and tracing over the original drawings are not allowed, as they are not considered manual technical drafting techniques. The marking  process  of this assignment  is rigorous and reliable. A careful examination of submissions will be conducted to detect any instances of tracing or transferring.

Attending lectures and tutorials and watching the recordings and instructional videos are critical to completing this assessment. Also, you may refer to the recommended reading “Architectural Graphics” (in the Course resources section on Stream), which contains all you need to know to develop your drawings.

You should develop drawings on three (3) A3 paper sheets.

•   Write your name and student ID number by hand using a red or blue pen on the

bottom right corner of each drawing, overlapping the drawing like a ‘stamp, (see examples on the next pages).

•   Once finished, take a high-resolution photo of each sheet (you may use your phone,s camera), placed on a flat surface in a well-lit room. Make sure that photos are in  landscape/horizontal  orientation,  not  blurred,  and  all  drawing  lines  are completely visible (including your name and student ID number). The quality of these photos will impact your marks in this assignment.

•   Convert the three photos into  PDF files and combine them  into a single PDF brochure. You may use online tools to do so, such as https://smallpdf.com/ or https://www.ilovepdf.com/

•    In    the    end,    your    portfolio    should    be    one    single    PDF    file     named LastnameFirstname_studentID#_Assignment3.pdf, with three pages (see next pages):

1. Page 1: a photo of an A3 paper sheet with the Floor Plan drawing (1 floor plan, 1:50 scale) - note: the drawing below is distorted and not to scale

2. Page 2: a photo of an A3 paper sheet with the Section drawing (1 section, 1:50 scale) - note: the drawing below is distorted and not to scale

3. Page 3: a photo of an A3 paper sheet with the Elevations and Detail drawings (2 elevations, 1:50 scale; 1 detail, 1:10 scale) - note: the drawings below are distorted and not to scale
