CIVIL 1810/9810 - Assignment 1
Due date: 7 September 2025 - 15 Marks
Please professionally present the following drawing tasks.
(You need to upload your either AUTOCAD or Revit Files into CANVAS).
You must use either AUTOCAD or Revit to illustrate your work. Please print your drawing in Pdf format when submitting the final version. There is no need to present the dimensions. You can assume any possible section for drawing the beams and columns (You can consider the available sections in the lecture slides).
Question 1 (8 marks):
Draw the structural details of the following sections (an elevation view and two side views) (8 marks).
Question 2 (7 Marks):
Bass Strait Submerged Floating Tunnel Feasibility Study Background Context:
There is ongoing discussion in the engineering community about constructing a submerged floating tunnel to connect Tasmania and mainland Australia across Bass Strait. Norway is currently developing the world's first submerged floating tunnel technology for crossing deep fjords, with the most advanced proposal being the Sognefjord crossing (3.7 km wide, 1,250 m deep). Based on the emerging Norwegian concepts and global research in submerged floating tunnel (SFT) technology, you are tasked with providing a preliminary technical assessment.
Key Parameters:
Bass Strait: Minimum crossing distance ~200 km (Wilsons Promontory to Stanley, Tasmania)
Average depth: 50-70 meters
Maximum depth in crossing area: ~ 73 meters
Challenging marine environment with strong currents and weather patterns.
Assignment Requirements:
Executive Summary and Project Charter (2 pages maximum)
Provide a concise executive summary and project charter including:
1. Project objectives and scope definition
2. Key stakeholders’ identification
3. High-level timeline and major milestones
4. Critical success factors and constraints
Research and References
Cite at least 5 credible engineering sources.
Reference current Norwegian SFT research and development.
Include relevant case studies from similar marine infrastructure projects.
Use your best judgement to include AutoCAD/Revit drawings (optional).
