Laboratory Manual for Experiment I-III
Laboratory Regulations and Safety Rules
Acquaint yourself with the location of the following safety items within the laboratory:
1. Fire extinguisher
2. First aid kit
3. Telephone and emergency numbers
The following Regulations and Safety Rules must be observed:
1. It is the duty of all concerned who use any electrical laboratory to take all reasonable steps to safeguard the HEALTH and SAFETY of themselves.
2. Be sure that all equipment is properly working before using them for laboratory exercises. Any defective equipment must be reported immediately to the Lab. Instructors.
3. Students are allowed to use only the equipment provided in the experiment manual.
4. Power supply terminals connected to any circuit are only energized with the presence of the Instructor.
5. Turn off all instruments before leaving the laboratory.
6. Double-check your circuit connections specifically in handling electrical power before switching “ON” the power supply.
7. Make sure that the last connection to be made in your circuit is the power supply and the first thing to be disconnected is also the power supply.
8. Equipment should not be moved to any location without permission from the laboratory staff.
9. Games are strictly prohibited in the laboratory.
10. Smoking, drinking, food, and other substances in the laboratory are not permitted.
All these rules and regulations are necessary precautions in Electrical Laboratory to safeguard the students, laboratory staff, equipment, and other laboratory users.
There is the RBE103TC Lab which is related to Digital and Analog Electronics. You are required to read through this laboratory manual at least one time before coming to the allocated experiment session. You will be assigned a lab partner to complete the two experiments in two weeks. The third experiment needs to be done on the computer by yourself. Please consult the Instructor if you have any problem with the arrangement.
Do come to the designated lab room for the experiment. Please be punctual and take note of the following:
i. Record the measurement results in the tables provided.
ii. Follow the experiment procedure carefully and in step-by-step order.
iii. Feel free to communicate with your peers concerning relevant procedures and experimental results. In cases where necessary, please consult instructors for support.
iv. Please inform the Instructor after you complete the respective experiment for on-site checking of your experimental results.
After the Lab, please check your results and answer all the questions provided in the "Results and Discussions" part. In your Lab report, it should contain content, introduction, methodology, results and discussions, and conclusion to show your understanding of this experiment.
Experiment I - Digital Electronics Circuits
In this experiment, you will be introduced to the construction and measurement of digital electronics circuits. You should achieve the following outcomes after completing Experiment I.
i. Construction of basic logic gates.
ii. Accomplish of a combinational logic circuit.
iii. Simplify the Sum-of-Product (SOP) expression using Karnaugh map
iv. Understand the laws and theorems of S-R latch.
v. Establishment of a asynchronous counter.
