Academic Project
Quantifying Airborne Allergens'Impact on Eye Health in Auckland
Overall Aim / Goal:
The project aims to analyse the fluctuations in weather, and airborne allergens such as pollen and mould, with changes on the ocular surface in different seasons of the year.
Project Duration:
Full-time over 1 semester, or part-time over 2 semesters.
Project Description:
To obtain pollen data, we established NZ’s first air sampler in this century in July 2023 in a partnership with Auckland Museum. The sampler captures all airborne material including pollen, spores and any other airborne allergens. We have also been assessing participants since 2023 for any ocular surface changes, amongst those with and without allergies, throughout the four seasons of the year. This project will involve conducting in-depth statistical analysis to correlate the ocular surface findings with various airborne allergen information collected using the sampler.
Data:
Ocular surface assessments and airborne allergen datasets.
Desired Output:
• Manuscript preparation.
• Dissertation/Report.
Preferred Skills – Who are we looking for?
Knowledge of statistical program ‘R’ .
Available Resources:
Immediate availability of data for analysis.
