2024 HHS4U - Families in Canada Project
This project is your last assignment for Families in Canada prior to your final exam. It is worth 30% of your final grade. It consists of two parts, and is broken down as follows:
Part 1: Annotated Bibliography: (10%)
Part 2: Marriage ‘artifact’ (20%)
Due Wednesday, 15th May 2024
The aim of this project is to combine your acquired knowledge regarding individual development, social/cultural norms, intimate relationships, gender roles, etc. (many of the main topics we have covered this semester).
Your project is as follows:
research the pre-wedding, wedding & post-wedding
rituals/customs/expectations/challenges of a culture of your choice.
(*note: you cannot research your own culture)
OR
research the pre-wedding, wedding & post-wedding
rituals/customs/expectations/challenges of a specific type of marriage
i.e. same-sex marriage, arranged marriage, polygamy, mail-order partners, intermarriage,
child marriage, etc.
Here are the 6 steps you need to take in order to successfully complete this final task: Step 1: Form a team of 3 students.
Step 2: Choose your culture or type of marriage. You must inform your teacher of your choice. Note: No groups can do the same topic; first come, first served!
Step 3: Conduct academic research regarding your topic (1 academic paper per student) There is some flexibility in the topics you can use for this, as long as it contributes to your understanding of the culture/relationship/courtship/ceremony you are studying.
Step 4: Use your research to write an annotated bibliography.
You may use non-academic sources to inform your research, in addition to the academic papers. These do not need to be included in your annotated bibliography, but they must be written in your final project’s bibliography.
Step 5: Using your research, create a final ‘marriage artifact’ that you will share with the class. You have complete freedom regarding this component, however, it must be something creative, informative, and visually appealing.
Some suggestions are:
● video (recommended)
● presentation
● website
● art piece (drawing or painting with explanation)
● animation
● anything else you can think of! (If you’re unsure, ask me!)
Step 6: submit and share your final product, and an overview of your research with your peers.
Presentations will be up to 12 minutes.
