The aim of this assignment is to write a report based on the analysis of the data you have gathered in CW1 outlining opportunities for advisory services.
In computer labs, you are learning how to carry out network analysis on the data collected for CW1. For CW2, you are asked to further investigate the directors and subsidiaries’ data of one of the two companies you have collected data for. You may also combine this with other data such as the patents and IP of the specific company.
You are tasked to write a 1500-word individual report identifying areas where network analysis, or other analytic methods, can help the company identify its strength and challenges with regards to innovation, discussing competitive advantages of the company in innovation. This assignment should be drafted as a brief of the potential opportunities for providing targeted advisory services to the specific company.
The below is a suggested structure for the report:
• Introduction
o Overview of the content
o Introducing the company and its sector
• Analysis of the subsidiaries
o Discussion of the subsidiaries (numbers, levels, sectors, etc)
o Network analysis of the subsidiaries and discussion (linking to theory, where appropriate)
• Analysis of the board of directors
o Discussion of the composition and characteristics
o Discussion of the interlocking directorships (do the company’s directors hold any other directorships?)
o Overall discussion of the board of directors, linking to theory
• Innovation
o Innovation approaches the company practices (refer to annual reports, website, etc)
o Discussion of opportunities (and/or obstacles) for innovation, referring to network analysis, and making recommendations
• Conclusion
o Recap main findings
o Recap main opportunities (and/or obstacles) for innovation
o Discuss the availability of data and information and sources
o Reflect on the challenges of CW2
