Term-time Assessment (TTA)

Assessment Name

TTA1. --- Mixed Reality Design Coursework

Assessment Type

Coursework

Description and

Deliverable(s)

The brief is to design a mixed reality game to engage visitors with a chosen setting (a physical site). This should involve using mixed reality to introduce elements of play that enhance the experience of, or make use of the characteristics of the setting in an appropriate way. This might involve locative media, augmented reality or virtual reality. You are free to choose whichever setting you like providing that you are able to visit it for initial fieldwork research. The key to the brief is to use a mixed reality technology in a playful and creative way to make deep connections between your chosen place and an entertaining experience.

You will need to:

Research the setting.

Ideate an appropriate experience design using the mixed reality deck of ideation cards that will be introduced in labs.

Prototype the critical interaction portions of your design.

Test your design with other users.

Reflect on the HCI concepts addressed by your design.

There is one deliverable for this coursework which takes the form of a video of up to 10 minutes documenting your research, ideation,

prototyping, testing and reflection. You may use any tools you like to

generate this, though we suggest that recording a Powerpoint presentation is a good starting point. We will discuss strategies for making the video in   the lectures. You may use generative only AI for asset creation in your prototype if you wish but not for producing your presentation.

You will be able to book a session for individual feedback on your proposed idea and plans for prototyping and testing midway through the module.
