Final “3 Lessons” Paper

Purpose: Months or years from now the details of our readings, lessons and discussions may fade. To help you integrate and consolidate the many findings discussed throughout this class, your final assignment consists of a one-page summary capturing your three key higher-order take-home lessons that synthesize the information and are grounded in the research we covered together. This assignment will also help you decide what lessons you’ll relay to your friends and family, as well as provide an opportunity to practice clear and effective writing.

Details: Please prepare a one-page single-spaced (12 point, Times New Roman) document listing three accurate, important and interesting higher-order take-away conclusions about the science of happiness. You should provide 4-5 sentences below each point that concisely summarize the research supporting this conclusion. You do not need to list the methods of the paper(s). Rather, you should summarize or refer to the relevant findings – and if more than one paper supports this point, please reference them all. The more of the course readings you can integrate into your paper, the better, but please be sure all evidence is relevant to your point.

Please note: Because one goal of this assignment is to summarize and synthesize three accurate, important and interesting messages, your evidence/support for each ‘key conclusion’ should include readings from more than just one week (e.g., at least one paper from Week 4 and one paper from Week 5). Please focus your assignment on the lessons and readings covered in class, not outside sources.

Due date and submission information: Assignments are due at 9:30am Pacific on April 3, 2024. Please submit online via Canvas and Turnitin.com.

Weight: The assignment is worth 20% of your course grade.

Formatting:

· Include a cover page with the title of your assignment, the date of submission, and your student number. Please do NOT write your name anywhere on the assignment.

· Include a reference page and cite articles in-text using appropriate APA citation format.

· Please provide an accompanying APA style reference page.

· Your assignment should be a maximum of 1 single-spaced page of text (not including the title and references page) with 1-inch margins; your TA will stop reading after 1 page. Use 12-point Times New Roman font. Please check these details- various word processing programs have different default settings.

· Grammar, organization, spelling, and general writing style will affect your grade.

Writing Practice: The brevity of this assignment requires that you write effectively and concisely. Please do not underestimate the amount of effort concise writing entails; it may take several drafts to refine your ideas to meet the one-page limit.
