ENVM3115/7205 Climate Risk Assessment (40% of your final grade – due 12th April 2024)

You are employed at an environmental consultancy and/or local government organisation and an investor or local government would like to purchase a business or undertake a development. Provide a first pass Climate Change Risk Assessment. Choose one of these 3 case studies to undertake this assessment. Assume that it needs to be a viable option for 50 years (2070) and look at the RCP 8.5 (SSP5-8.5) most extreme scenario for the worst-case scenario for the business.

1. Motel - Maroochydore QLD 4558 - 2018760667 (commercialrealestate.com.au)

2. Toondah Harbour | A brighter local future for the Redlands Coast

3. 178 McCutcheon Road, Innisfail, QLD 4860 - Commercial Farming & Rural Property For Sale - realcommercial

Use the websites and tools that you have been using during the workshops in weeks 2, 3, and 4. You will also need to use published papers, reports and google searches to look for evidence of past climatic influences and potential future climate events for the case study you have chosen.

Make sure that you reference the data and evidence throughout the report – the source of all data needs to be referenced (website links, published papers etc). If you need a reminder on how to reference correctly in your report then there is a reference exercise provided in the folder.

The report needs to include

· Introduction – including an outline of the property and its current uses

· Risk Assessment table for the climate risks the property has experienced in the last 50 years and may expect in the next 50 years (you will need to adapt the risk assessment table used in the practical as it won’t necessarily be suitable for all the case studies). You will need to rate these risks as low, medium, high or extreme.

· Written text summarising the main findings in the Risk assessment table.

· Discuss the climate adaptation options for the climate risks you have identified as high or extreme.

· References in Harvard Style.

Word count: 2000 +/- 10% (the Risk assessment table and figure captions and references are not included in the word count)

Figures: 4-6 figures with data references

RISK ASSESSMENT TABLE – 20% of final grade

WRITTEN TEXT AND FIGURES – 20% of final grade

Examples: There are 3 examples provided to show you what is expected. (The criteria were slightly different in previous years e.g. 1500 words rather than 2000 words.)

Please submit the risk assessment table and report as one file via Turnitin by 2 pm on the 12th April.
