OBJECTIVES:

After completing the assignment, you should be able to:

. Design a 4-bit  synchronous binary counter using J-K Flip-Flops and other basic gates.

INTRODUCTION:

In this assignment, you will explore the operation of commonly applied logic gates, flip- flops, and build a custom counter using them. You will also display the counting digits using a 7-segment LED display.

EQUIPMENTS / MATERIALS:

Please create a free account at www.tinkercad.com. You can use any of the following components from the website provided:

. Multimeter / Oscilloscope

. Power Supply / Function Generator

. Breadboard / Breadboard Small

. Pushbutton / DIP Switch DPST (1, 4, 6)

. Resistors

. Wires

. Any suitable LOGIC gates (AND, OR, NOT, NAND, XOR)

. 7473 Dual J-K Flip-Flops

. CD4511 7-Segment Decoder

. 7-Segment Display

ASSIGNMENT:

You are required to build a 4-bit synchronous counter that repeatedly counts from the first digit to the last digit of your student ID. If there are repeated digit(s) in your student ID, you may replace it (or them) by any other non-repeating digit(s). The counting should be applied everytime a pushbutton is depressed. The digit being counted will be displayed on a  7-

Segment LED Display. Examples of the student ID sequences:
