Course Description: The basic legal principles that apply to the areas of law and society, contracts, agency and employment, partnerships, and corporations. Consideration of relevant statutes and adjudicated cases which give the student a grasp of the legal risks and results incident to common business relationships and transactions.

Course Student Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of the course students will demonstrate the ability to:
• Course Student Learning Outcome 1: Define basic legal terminology and relate that terminology to business concepts and personal circumstances. (CSLO 1)
• Course Student Learning Outcome 2: Identify the historical development of law, U.S. Constitution, U.S. court system, legal terminology, and legal procedures. (CSLO 2)
• Course Student Learning Outcome 3: Differentiate criminal law and criminal conduct under the U.S. Constitution. (CSLO 3)
• Course Student Learning Outcome 4: Distinguish among tort law, strict liability and product liability theories and explain their impact on business operations. (CSLO 4)
• Course Student Learning Outcome 5: Explain principles of private law that apply to commercial transactions such as contracts and property law. (CSLO 5)
• Course Student Learning Outcome 6: Classify various business organization, including sole proprietorships, partnerships, partnerships, limited liability companies, corporations and franchises. (CSLO 6)
• Course Student Learning Outcome 7: Examine important employment and labor law principles that govern relationships between employers and other groups in the workplace. (CSLO 7)
Instructional Methods
Students who are enrolled in an online course will experience no in-person meeting requirements as all course content, reading/resources, class discussions, assessments, assignments, feedback and communications occur entirely online.
This online course is taught using in an eight-unit schedule and will use a standard of 1000 total points. Students will find common graded and non-graded learning activities present throughout the course. Each unit will include:
