(a) Explain the process of understanding sensory signals. (10%)

Question 2 (25%)

(a) Describe and explain the similarities and differences between resistive and capacitive touch screen sensors in terms of working principles. (5%)

(b) Write down the general mathematics equation for sinusoid signal. Describe how the equation models sound and light signals in terms of physics properties and units. (10%)

(c) Discuss how the human perceptual limitations (hearing, visual) affect the sample rate employed in audio/image processing. (10%)

(a) Calculate the entropy of the following image (resolution is 8x8). (10%)

(b) Construct a Huffman coding for each pixel value in (a). (10%)

(c) Calculate the expected number of bits per symbol in (b) and compare it with any fixed length coding to explain why Huffman coding is more efficient. (5%)

(a) Calculate the bit rate of un-compressed full high definition video captured in RGB (24bits) mode and PAL standard. (5%)

(b) Draw a block diagram to explain the principle of differential coding encoder and decoder. Explain how the compression efficiency could be affected. (10%)

(c) Explain how differential coding applied in video compression and how to improve the video compression efficiency. (10%)
