Understanding Social Conflicts by Game Theory

2023/24 S1

Project instructions:

Topic

Free choice of topic on voting system, decision and strategy making, simulation of social  situation by game theory, etc… the topic should be related to the society or student’s own discipline of study with application of the knowledge learnt from this course.

In case too many students choose a similar topic, students who submit the project proposal later might be banned.

The project proposal should be completed by using the form provided and submitted onto Blackboard. Only after your proposal is approved you can work with the chosen topic.

Format

- Formal English should be used. Names of the original language can be shown in brackets after the English translation.

- Microsoft Word “.docx” file with normal margin, vertical A4 size, font size 12 and 1.5 line spacing, Times New Romans.

- The file name should be “(your family name)_(your given name)_(proposal/project).docx”.   For example, your proposal is chan_taiman_proposal.docx” and your project to submit at the end is chan_taiman_project.docx” .

- The proposal should be included on top, not counted as the body of the project. There should be 5–12 pages for the project body, within 1500-2500 words. Reference should be shown in APA format after that. Please also indicate your choice of using AI or not.

- Online submission on Blackboard. Turnitin is used to check for originality. Plagiarism is strictly forbidden.

Use of AI

To promote digital literacy in particular the use of general artificial intelligence (AI) tools, students are encouraged to apply those tools in the project. Such tools include automatic search engines, summarization tools, chatbots, etc.

If you choose to use AI in the project, you are required to include two extra reports in the  appendix. On Report I, you should explain how did you use AI to make suggestion on the topics and relevant reference, and why did you decide to choose the current topic.

On Report II, you should indicate which part of work (writing, mathematical evaluations, production of graphics, data analysis, programming, etc) is done by AI. You should also justify why you adopt or reject the part of work done by AI. For example, you may think that the mathematical model suggested by AI is unrealistic, AI cannot understand the problem, etc. You can also show how you correct or modify the work done by AI so that it is suitable to be included in the project.

On both reports, the name of the AI tools used for each part should be stated clearly. You may consider to include your input commands and the key result of the AI tools. The reports do not count towards the total number of words and pages.

For students who opt for not using AI, they should write the project without any use of AI.

Otherwise, it will be regarded as plagiarism. This option is subject to approval.
