FTA421-Introduction to Cultural and Creative Industries
ASSESSMENT: INDIVIDUAL ESSAY
This is an individual assignment delivered in the form of a written essay (1000-1200 words).
TOPIC:
How I wish to influence the Cultural and Creative Industries through cross-cultural work
Briefly introduce a project you would like to develop in Cultural and Creative Industries and describe it in terms of your broader life/career mission. Using class content, how do you see your development in progressing your idea? What steps would you need to take to achieve it?
Pick a project from the field, that best suits your interests/background/experience, but make sure it aims at facilitating cross-cultural communication. Please pay particular attention to the texts we will discuss by Kenya Hara (Kenya Hara Designing Design, Lars Müller Publishers 2007) and Wolfgang Welsch (Wolfgang Welsch, Transculturality - the Puzzling Form of Cultures Today, [in:] Spaces of Culture: City, Nation, World, ed. by Mike Featherstone and Scott Lash, London 1999, pp. 194-213), and explain in detail how and why you will draw inspiration from existing traditions, channelling them into the future through your project.
Make sure you speak with a strong personal voice and share original ideas. Please discuss the creative aspects and social impact of your project in relation to some of the major issues we cover throughout this class (such as sustainability, technology and social implications). Each idea/topic should be discussed with me in advance and be validated before you begin to write.
Attach the standard coursework submission cover sheet in front of the essay. Prepare the whole document as a Word copy and upload it to the LMO submission area (activated in due course). Format your file name as: yourName_yourStudentID_FTA421_Essay.docx
The following guidelines must be followed:
Your essay can include graphics if relevant to explain your idea.
The text must be written in proper English. Make sure you revise and proofread the file before submitting. This is an English language major and any information provided in Chinese will be considered incomprehensible.
The assessment should be submitted digitally as a WORD file.
